Ensemble Theatre Company (ETC) is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Interim Lighting and AV (LXAV) Supervisor. This full-time benefits-eligible position requires someone who has demonstrated expertise in lighting, video and audio.

Organizational Description

Led by Executive Director Scott DeVine, ETC presents important new plays and innovative interpretations of classic works for a broad audience. ETC engages audiences with entertaining, compelling, and thought-provoking theatrical productions, develops the community’s knowledge and appreciation of live stage productions, and offers a range of educational programs for young people.

Position Summary

The LXAV Supervisor leads the lighting, video, and audio departments in planning and execution of all produced and presented works at Ensemble Theatre Company, as well as provides support in audio, video and lighting to rental clients on an as needed basis. They supervise crews in audio, video and lighting in the day to day operation of these departments. They are responsible for the realization of each production’s artistic vision in a safe and efficient way. This position reports to the Director of Production and works closely with designers and other production department heads.

This is a temporary, interim position covering a current employee’s leave of absence, starting in late July 2024 and running through August 2025.

Key Responsibilities:

· Oversee and manage the operation of the lighting, video and audio departments and execution of respective designs including the supervision of electricians, board programmers/operators, audio engineers, audio assistants, and video engineers.

· Attend design meetings, production meetings, and production department head meetings.

· Generate and review labor and material estimates for lighting, audio, and video designs and general department operation.

· Collaborate and coordinate with production departments, designers, and other parties as needed to interpret and develop final designs within budget parameters.

· Coordinate purchasing and rental of materials as needed.

· Track and manage production and department expenditures.

· Collaborate to develop cost-conscious solutions when confronting design challenges.

· Hire, schedule, and manage over-hire, electricians, audio engineers, audio assistants, and video engineers by providing support and feedback to ensure employees are growing and working to their potential.

· Collaborate with other department heads to manage the flow of units through the shops when lighting, video or audio elements are part of the design. Oversee installation of electrics, audio and video elements with the crossover departments.

· Lead all lighting calls necessary for the execution of the production lighting designs.

· Serve as light board programmer during tech rehearsals.

· Maintain up-to-date light and audio rep plots for company events, rentals, and special projects and supervise the restoration of rep plots following each production.

· Maintain and improve production spaces, LXAV systems and equipment inventories by scheduling inspections, repairs, and upgrades.

· Work with Director of Production and/or Rentals Manager on examinations of future season calendars, budgets, and potential presented work.

· Provide lighting and AV support for company events, education programming, and rentals as needed. Possible design opportunities for interested candidates.

· Adhere to and enforce safe working practices and follow all Ensemble Theatre Safety policies. As needed, establish guidelines for safe work in theatre space for department staff.

· Stay informed of health and safety issues regarding materials, equipment and working environment.

· Serve as Technical Supervisor/run crew for performances as needed.

Qualifications:

Strong oral and written communication skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Ability to manage shifting and competing priorities, exercise good judgment and discretion, and maintain a positive attitude in stressful environments.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).

Proficiency in Google Workspace.

Proficiency in Vectorworks Spotlight and Lightwright software and ability to quickly extrapolate data from design plates and lighting and audio paperwork.

Proficiency in ETC Eos Family Consoles.

Familiarity with QLab software.

Understanding of audio and video signal paths.

Basic rigging experience.

Ability to work evenings and weekends as necessary.

Valid driver's license.

2-3 years’ experience as a Lead Electrician or 6-10 years’ experience as an electrician in an entertainment venue.

Preferred Qualifications:

3 or more years’ experience as Lead Electrician.

Proficiency in QLab 5 software.

Audio mixing experience, especially on Allen and Heath SQ5 console.

Familiarity with Isadora software.
