Needs More Work Productions creates spicy, bold, and colorful theater for a better tomorrow. Specializing in site specific and immersive shows, we perform unique adaptations of beloved classics in the green spaces of New York City. Needs More Work Productions’ shows center themes of social activism, creating thought-provoking conversations directly between audience members and performers. Said to “raise the bar for indie theater”, our philosophy of hopeful action is a standout in the NYC independent theater scene.
Needs More Work Productions is currently casting for our 2025 Cabaret/Reading Fundraising Series. This series of performances includes venues such as 54 Below, The Green Room 42, and other iconic locations throughout NYC.
We are seeking non-union, versatile and passionate singers and actors to play a variety of roles from the world of ancient Greek mythology in our cabaret and staged reading series, reflecting NMWP’s season of Greek theater with a modern twist. Performers comfortable with comedy and improv are desired. The ability to learn music individually is a must.
These events function as fundraisers for The Kings’ Cycle, a series of Greek tragedy adaptations that explore the mechanisms of modern democracy and create real-time activism plans. We are looking for performers who are willing to volunteer their time to support indie, BIPOC, trans, disabled and immigrant led theater. Not you? Events will take place between the months of January and May, with a small number of rehearsals (1-5) each.
Submission Instructions
Please prepare two contrasting 16-32 bar cuts of either musical theater or popular music that best represent your vocal and acting prowess. If you’d like to be considered for our play readings, you can submit a comedic classical monologue as well. Please play your accompaniment on a separate device, acapella videos will not be considered.
