Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS is the philanthropic heart of the Broadway community. Money raised by Broadway Cares funds organizations across the country that provide lifesaving medication, healthy meals, counseling and emergency assistance for those in need and crisis. Broadway Cares is the single largest financial supporter of the Entertainment Community Fund (formerly The Actors Fund), helping everyone in entertainment and the performing arts. Broadway Cares also awards annual grants to more than 450 food pantries, meal delivery organizations, health clinics, emergency assistance programs and other social service organizations in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C., helping those living with HIV/AIDS and facing other debilitating illnesses.

Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS seeks a self-motivated, dynamic and experienced human resources professional who is great with processes and passionate about people. The human resources generalist will be empathetic, proactive and genuinely invested in helping others thrive. This role will help shape our employee experience from beginning to end. The ideal candidate will handle recruiting and welcoming new team members, supporting benefits and wellness for all current and future staff, coach managers, deliver strategies and ensure best practices while nurturing our internal culture and helping to ensure our workplace continues to be a place where people feel respected, engaged, valued, supported and included.
The human resources generalist will report to the director of finance and administration, working closely and collaboratively with the executive director and senior leadership.
Duties and Responsibilities
Lead and support the recruitment and hiring process, from job postings to final offers and onboarding
Be the go-to person for HR-related inquiries, fostering a positive, supportive environment built on trust and open communication
Ensure an inclusive, connected workplace culture by spearheading and managing events and engagement initiatives, and exhibiting a genuine care for the well-being of our team
Establish credibility as an effective listener and problem-solver, who can advise and facilitate conversations with staff and partners at all levels to help resolve conflicts with empathy and professionalism
Manage employee benefit plans and assist employees with questions and claims.
Complete worker’s compensation injury reports and monitor progress of claims
Provide FMLA/disability paperwork to employees and follow up on required documentation and filings. Review employee payments to ensure accuracy
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations regarding employment, benefits and other workplace matters. Keep informed and advised accordingly of new developments in the HR field to ensure that Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS is in line with industry standards
Maintain confidential employee records, oversee payroll processing (using ADP Run) and support other key processes (including salary advances, garnishments and audits, etc.)
Partner with senior leadership to oversee performance reviews, setting tangible goals and means of evaluating effectiveness; coaching on employee relations
Assist the controller with pension administration and prepare annual census data for required 5500 reports for 401K, Section 125 and direct benefit pension plan
Evaluate, manage and update employee handbook
Seek out and coordinate measurable opportunities to invest in professional development for staff
Review, track, coordinate and document compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory trainings
Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits and leave, disciplinary matters, disputes and investigations
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
3+ years of experience in human resources with a solid foundation across the employee lifecycle — from hiring and onboarding to benefits and employee relations
Experience working within the Broadway or theater industry
Bachelor’s degree
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Drive and ADP Run payroll system
Knowledge of federal, state and New York City employment laws
Ability to think creatively while simultaneously being solution-oriented to drive results
Understanding of and commitment to Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS’ mission
Strong leadership, management and mentoring skills
Capable of prioritizing multiple demands and exercising strong time management skills with acute attention to detail
Ability to maintain the highest degree of confidentiality and discretion, and to exercise sound judgment
Ability to be empathetic yet direct, with excellent listening skills
Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus
Ability to communicate confidently across all levels of the organization

Compensation/benefits
Salary: $70,000-$80,000
