[MOTHER] Character is female, 30–40, Caucasian. The consummate wife and mother. A kind woman with incredible moral fiber. Refined, intelligent, graceful and open-minded. G3—F#5.

[TATEH] Character is male, 35–45, Caucasian. A Latvian immigrant. He wears the trials and tribulations of his past on his sleeve but remains optimistic that he will be successful. Full of genuine drive and heart. He lives for his little daughter. Bb2—F#4.

[COALHOUSE WALKER JR.] Character is male, 25–35, Black. A proud and talented pianist. A Black man who believes that he can take part in the new America and will be treated fairly. G2—A4.

[SARAH] Character is female, 20–25, Black. Sarah is a young Black woman, beautiful and filled with a strong will to live, fueled by an innocent spirit. Falls deeply in love with Coalhouse after much resistance. G#3—F#5.

[EVELYN NESBIT] Character is female, 21–25, Caucasian. Beautiful vaudeville performer. Thrust into the limelight after the high-profile murder of her lover, the entire world is her stage. B3—D5.

[CHAD] — Character is male. 20s. A great-lookin’, motorcycling, guitar-playing, leather-jacketed roustabout. What he lacks in brains, he makes up for with charm and charisma.

[JIM HALLER] — Character is male. Mid 40s-50s. Natalie’s widowed father who still longs for his wife. A gentle man whose heart is always in the right place.

[SYLVIA] — Character is female. Mid 40s. The no-nonsense, Black owner of SYLVIA’S HONKYTONK. She is a hardworking, single mom who suffers no Fools.

[LORRAINE] — Character is female. Sylvia’s bright 16-year-old daughter and a hopeless romantic.

[DENNIS] — Character is male. A young, awkward, aspiring dentist and Natalie’s best friend. He is a loyal and good friend, who pines after her despite her crush on Chad.

[MRS. CLAUS] Character is female. Any race/ethnicity/nationality. Timeless. Mezzo. Santa Claus’ delightful but overlooked wife. Warm, Determined, Whimsical. Mrs. Claus is on the adventure of a lifetime after she sets off to prove She is more than a trophy wife and accidentally lands on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. This is a star vehicle whose charm will make us all believe in the magic of Christmas.

[SANTA] Character is male. Timeless. Baritenor. Mrs. Claus’ jolly but overworked husband. Traditional, Stubborn, Tender. Santa puts both Christmas and his marriage in jeopardy when he overlooks Mrs. Claus.

[AUGUSTUS TAVISH] Character is male. 30s-40s. Tenor. The deliciously wicked owner of Tavish Toys. Cruel, Scheming, Haughty. Tavish has had a chip on his shoulder since Santa branded him “Naughty” as a child. Willy Wonka meets Jeff Bezos.

[NORA KILKENNY] Character is female. Irish. 10. Soprano. A street-smart kid who’s had to grow up too fast. Independent, Charismatic, Naughty. Nora is an Irish immigrant who works at Tavish Toys and loves to pull pranks and cause mischief. She has a winsome attitude and real emotional depth.

[SADIE LOWENSTEIN] Character is female. Eastern European Jewish. 20s. Soprano. A suffragist. Radical, Sharp, Pragmatic. Sadie is a Jewish immigrant and political activist fighting for a woman’s right to vote. Known as “Soapbox Sadie” because she’s usually standing on the corner of the street delivering speeches about gender equality.

[ELIJAH SMALLS] Character is male. African and Irish American. 20s. Tenor. A stableboy. Romantic, Helpful, Dreamer. Elijah is an optimist with a great passion for life and the animals he cares for. His mother is Irish and his father is African-American, so he’s more open minded than most. Elijah has a massive crush on Sadie and big Pie-in-the sky ideas about what their life could look like... if only he could get a word in.

[MRS. LOWENSTEIN] Character is female. Eastern European Jewish. 40s. Alto. Owner of the boarding house and Sadie’s mother. Hospitable, Nurturing, Hilarious. Mrs. Lowenstein is a Jewish immigrant with a cutting sense of humor, and a deep fear that it’s just a matter of time before her family is driven from this home too.

[OFFICER DOYLE] Character is male. Irish. 40s. Baritone. A policeman. Bumbling, Exasperated, Soft. Officer Doyle is more often than not the target of Nora’s pranks but is always a step behind in catching her. Doyle also has a crush on Mrs. Lowenstein but is terrible at flirting.

[ARVO] Character is any gender. 20s. Tenor/Alto. Head Supervising Elf. Optimistic, Resourceful.
