NON- UNION Boston Local Actors Only

KEY PERSONNEL:

Playwright: Catia

Director: Afrikah Selah

SYNOPSIS:

GOOD: A Play About Gods in the Ghetto

When Zeus goes to jail, his absence is both relief and rupture. Jenmari hustles to survive the dysfunction he left behind, Cassie dreams of a better life outside the hood, and Phro hides a relationship Zeus would have destroyed. GOOD asks: what happens when gods fall and become human? When the tyrant is gone, can those in his kingdom ever truly be free? And is forgiveness possible?

SEEKING THE FOLLOWING:

ZEUS: 19, Strong, Scary, Arrogant, A GOD

CASSIE: 21, Cynical, tough, secretly caring, a dreamer, cousin of Zeus.

JENMARI: 14, too clever for her own age because she has to be. Sister of both Phro & Zeus.

MOM: Late 30s-early 40s, not one to be messed with, struggles with power. Mother to all.

DEEZ: Late 20s - early 30s, both feared and loved, runs the prison, Zeus & Phro’s brother.

PHRO: 20, full of light and positivity, constantly conflicted with the darkness of situations. Beautiful in all its definitions.

ISRAEL: 18, not the brightest but full of heart.

RICKY: Late twenties. Both wise and funny. Can be doubled with Israel.

Notes:

  • This entire cast is meant to be performed by people of color.

  • Ideally seeking Afro-latinx cast of Dominican background. That being said, Hispanic families come in all different shades but ideally we are showcasing the brown/black ones. Whatever the cast, their heritage should be strongly represented throughout the play.

  • Ricky is the only exception as he can be of any U.S minority or global majority.

  • It is important to the creative team that the cast can comfortably speak Spanish or become comfortable quickly outside of Israel/Ricky.

DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION:

At Moonbox, we believe that the stories we tell are important. They sustain and preserve our community, our history, and our values. Telling racially diverse stories allows us not only to reflect – but also to reflect on – the complexities of our past. When we join together in the act of storytelling, we are united in ways that transcend the everyday. Together, we can use the power of storytelling to honor our commonalities, celebrate our differences, and address historical discrimination and injustice. We pledge to take this power seriously, and to use our voices and the stories we tell to dismantle the systemic racism and white supremacy engulfing our culture, our country, and our industry .We believe in creating spaces that reflect the diversity of our shared community, both on and off the stage, where under-represented voices, including BIPOC, LGBTQIA2S+, and people living with disabilities feel valued and important. We believe that accessibility is a human right. We are devoted to providing performances and work spaces that can be experienced and enjoyed universally, and to incorporating accessibility planning into our production, design, staffing, and budgeting processes from day one.
