BREAKDOWN

GLASS.KILL.WHAT IF IF ONLY. IMP.

SYNOPSIS: A girl made of glass. Gods and murderers. A pack of ghosts. And a secret in a bottle. A kaleidoscope of mythic, haunting and darkly funny stories which together form a meditation on our very human need to make sense of how we got here and where we go when it’s over. This will be the first time that all four plays will be presented together in North America.

Note. All plays except IMP will be performed in American accents. The specific accent requirements for IMP are noted in the character descriptions below.

SEEKING:

ACTOR 1: Female identifying. Any ethnicity. 20s+ to play younger. GIRL (in GLASS). A fragile young woman made of glass. Although she is made of glass she looks and behaves just like a normal person. Some people see her and some don’t, depending on the light. Will Double as FUTURE (in WHAT IF IF ONLY).

ACTOR 2: Male identifying. Any ethnicity. Late 20s - early 30s. SOMEONE in (WHAT IF IF ONLY), a man consumed by the loss of his beloved who meets a series of unborn futures. Will also likely Double as BROTHER (in GLASS), and additional characters in the same play.

ACTOR 3: Male identifying. White. Late 20s - early 30s. ROB (in IMP). Despite his adventure filled stories, Rob's life has seemingly unraveled. Separated from his wife and young son, he is in recovery but we are not sure from what. Authentic sounding BRITISH ACCENT is a MUST. Will also likely Double as FRIEND (in GLASS), as well as additional characters in the same play. Friend develops a deep bond with Girl but is haunted by the abuse he suffered as a child.

ACTOR 4: Female identifying. Any ethnicity. Late 20s - Early 30s. NIAMH (in IMP), a young woman who arrives in London from Ireland to work for a big company in the City. She is bright, smart and empathic but beset with irrational fears. Authentic sounding IRISH ACCENT is a MUST. Will Double as MOTHER (in GLASS) and additional characters in the same play.

ACTOR 5: Female identifying. White. 50s - 60s. DOT (in IMP). A woman who’s world has shrunk to the size of the armchair she never leaves. She lives with her cousin Jimmy. Dot puts all of her faith in a bottle, which may or may not hold the promise of a prosperous future. Authentic sounding BRITISH ACCENT is a MUST. Will likely also Double as GODS (in KILL). They are the Gods, who remind us of the horrors and cruelty on which Western Civilization was built. This piece is a monologue.

ACTOR 6: Male identifying. Any ethnicity. 50s - 60s. JIMMY (in IMP). Dot’s cousin, he struggles with depression and uses running as a salve. Feels stuck and lives his life through other people’s stories. Authentic sounding BRITISH ACCENT is a MUST. Will Double as PRESENT (in WHAT IF IF ONLY).

ACTOR 7: CHILD. Any gender identity. Any ethnicity. Aged between 8 and 10 years old. Seeking a child who is thoughtful, smart, focused and can be still on stage. Child actors will be present while adult actors discuss loss & grief.

ACTOR 8: Any gender identity. Any ethnicity. Age 18+. A skilled JUGGLER who is adept with any of the following: balls, clubs, rings, devil sticks, diabolos, knives., etc. Their self-created act will be performed on a forestage between plays.

ACTOR 9: Any gender identity. Any ethnicity. Age 18+. A skilled ACROBAT who can perform either one or multiple skills to an exceptional standard. Examples include, but are not limited to: acrobatics, pole climbing, silks, Spanish web and trapeze. Their self-created act will be performed on a forestage between plays and must be self-contained and not involve an elaborate set up.
