SEEKING:

Riff: Male, 25-30, G4-Bb2; A spritely, quick-tempered leader. He seeks to eliminate the Sharks and establish his own gang's dominance. Tony's best friend, he is eventually murdered by Bernardo.

Tony: Male, 25-30, Bb4-Bb2; A romantic young man and former leader of the Jets, he has found a new
lifestyle now. Tony finds himself violently torn between his friendships and love. Falls in love with Maria
and meets an untimely death. Genuinely sweet and sincere.

Bernardo: Male, 25-35, Eb4-Bb2; A proud, strong, handsome Puerto Rican man. Bernardo seeks to carve
out territory as a sense of identity for he and his friends. Maria's brother and Anita's boyfriend. Leader of
the Sharks.

Maria: Female, 18-25, C6-Bb3; A hopeless romantic and innocent young girl. She falls in love with Tony
and finds herself at the center of the violent conflict between the two gangs. Bernardo's sister. Puerto
Rican.

Anita: Female, 25-30, D5-F3; Feisty and assertive. She dispenses "older sister" advice to Maria and tries
to shield her from the dangers of the gangs. Bernardo's girlfriend and Maria's friend. Puerto Rican.

Chino: Male, 20-25; An angry and, at times, naive Shark who turns murderous and vengeful. Suitor to
Maria and friend of Bernardo's.

Anybodys: Any, 18-25; A spunky tomboy who is desperate to become a member of the Jets. The other
Jets mock her for her ambitions, but generally appreciate her company. Full of energy and heart.

Doc: Male, 50-60; The owner of the candy store where the Jets hang out. He tries to guide the Jets
youthful angst and provides a safe haven for Tony. Old fashioned and wise in his ways.

Schrank: Male, 40-50; A local police detective frustrated by the ongoing violence between the Jets and
Sharks. Blunt, brash, and unapologetic.

Krupke: Male, 40-50; The local beat cop. He has no patience for the gang's conflict and tries to keep
tensions from erupting between them. Regularly mocked by the local gangs.

Gladhand: Nerdy, overly cheerful and ill-equipped social director at the school dance (“Mambo”).
Speaking role. No dance background.

Ensemble: Triple threat dancer, singer, actors of all ethnicities.

[OTIS WILLIAMS] Character is male (cis, transgender, or non-binary). 30s-40s. Black. Founder and last
surviving original member of The Temptations. Never the flashiest performer, but always the rock of the
group. A stand-up guy, tough, with a big heart and deep conscience. BARITONE; Strong Dancer.

[DAVID RUFFIN] Character is male (cis, transgender, or non-binary). 20s-30s. Black. Lead singer of The
Temptations after Al, helped take the group to the top of the charts. As electric on stage as “lightning in
a bottle.” Maybe the most charismatic front man in pop music history. Doubles as Guard. LEAD TENOR;
Strong Dancer.

[MELVIN FRANKLIN] Character is male (cis, transgender, or non-binary). 20s-30s. Black. Loved his
Mama. The bass of the group and one of the first members Otis recruited. Nicknamed “Blue” because of

his fondness for the color, Melvin was incredibly loyal to the group and, particularly, Otis. BASS; Strong
Dancer.

[EDDIE KENDRICKS] Character is male (cis, transgender, or non-binary). 20s-30s. Black. Friends with Paul
since elementary school, Eddie created most of the group’s vocal arrangements and served as wardrobe
manager. Outspoken. Loved cornbread so much, they nicknamed him “Corn.” STRONG FALSETTO; Strong
Dancer.

[PAUL WILLIAMS] Character is male (cis, transgender, or non-binary). 20s-30s. Black. No relation to Otis,
Paul was one of the founding members of The Temptations and the group’s resident choreographer.
Well-liked and kind, but unable to cope with his own demons. BARITONE; Strong Dancer

[ENSEMBLE/BERRY GORDY] Male-Presenting, 30s-40s, Black. The Chairman! The founder of Motown
and a man who needs no introduction. Strong Mover.

[ENSEMBLE/DENNIS EDWARDS & OTHERS] Male-Presenting, 20s-30s, Black. Lead singer of The
Temptations after David Ruffin. A vocal powerhouse with the ego to match. Doubles as STRAIGHT TALK
FELLA and DELIVERY MAN. Tenor/Baritone. Gospel sound a plus. Strong Dancer.

[ENSEMBLE/ELBRIDGE “AL” BRYANT & OTHERS] Male-Presenting, 20s-30s, Black. An original member
of the group who didn’t last long due to his hot temper. Doubles as NORMAN WHITFIELD, a writer of
some of The Temps’ biggest hits, et. al. Tenor. Strong Dancer.

[ENSEMBLE/RICHARD STREET & OTHERS] Male-Presenting, 20s-30s, Black. An aspiring singer who
stepped in at certain performances until becoming a full-fledged member later on in The Temps’ career.
Doubles as OFFSTAGE GANG. Tenor. Strong Dancer.

[ENSEMBLE/SMOKEY ROBINSON & OTHERS] Male-Presenting, 20s-30s, Black. The Temptations’
songwriter that put the group on the map. A legendary singer in his own right. Strong Tenor. Strong
Dancer.

[ENSEMBLE/LAMONT & OTHERS] Male-Presenting, 20s, Black. Otis Williams’ son. Strong Tenor. Strong
Dancer.

[ENSEMBLE/SHELLY BERGER] Male-Presenting, 20s-40s, White. Not your typical Motown manager.
Character man; His quick wit and level head helps The Temptations achieve their success. Doubles as

JUDGE and TV ANNOUNCER. Strong Tenor.

[ENSEMBLE/JOSEPHINE] Female-Presenting, 20s-30s, Black. Otis’ teenage wife who grows up fast. She
takes care of their son while he’s on the road. Alto/Very High Belt. Strong Dancer.

Claude & others: Male, 40-60, G4; The gregarious and well-liked Mayor of Gander, Newfoundland,
Claude loves his work, the townspeople and his daily traditions, but he's never had to deal with a crisis of
this magnitude before. Doubles as Derm and Brenda’s Brother, Eddie.

Bonnie & others: Female, 30-40, B4; A no-nonsense mother of three, Bonnie is the head of the Gander
area SPCA. When she discovers animals are trapped on the planes, she stops at nothing to ensure their
safety - but in frustration, she often lashes out at those around her. Doubles as Martha.

Beulah & others: Female, 40-60; The head of the Gander Legion, with a firefighter son, who walks
Hannah to her church and prays with her. Doubles as Delores.

Oz & others: Male, 30-50, G4; The quirky constable in the two-person Gander police force. When the
town's population suddenly doubles, Oz helps out in unexpected ways. Doubles as Joey, Customs Officer,
Mr. Michaels, Terry, Matty, Rabbi, and Head Cardiologist.

Janice & others: Female, 20-30, E5; An eager new local TV reporter, Janice is thrown into the deep end
on her first day. Initially naïve about the world, Janice must face the pain and confusion around her.
Doubles as Britney and Flight Attendant.

Beverley & others: Female, 50-60, C#5; The first female captain for American Airlines. Pilot, Beverly Bass
has always loved flying, when her world suddenly changes. Doubles as Annette and Reporter.

Diane & others: Female, 50-60, C#5-A3; A traditional divorcee from Texas, who is terrified that her son
may have been flying at the time of the attacks. When she finds out that he's safe, she's given a new
lease on life and discovers a wilder, more carefree side of herself. Doubles as Crystal and Brenda.

Nick & others: Male, 50-60, E4; An English oil engineer who is focused on his work, Nick's life is turned
upside down when he falls for Diane. Doubles as Doug, Officer Stephenson, and Male Townsperson.

Kevin T & others: Male, 30-50, G4; The head of an environmental energy company in Los Angeles, Kevin
was on vacation with his boyfriend (and secretary, also named Kevin), when they are stranded in Gander.
Inspired by the town's generosity, Kevin creates the Pay It Forward Foundation. Doubles as Garth and
President Bush.

Kevin J & others: Male, 30-50; Kevin's boyfriend and secretary. Sarcastic and unhappy, he wants to leave
as soon as possible. Doubles as Dwight and Ali.

Bob & others: Male, 20-40; A hardened New Yorker, Bob is suspicious of where he's landed, fearing that
it's World War 3, that someone is going to shoot him and steal his wallet - but instead, he ends up losing
his New York jadedness. Doubles as Muhumuza and Captain Bristol.

Hannah & others: Female, 40-60, E5; The mother of a firefighter in Manhattan, Hannah waits for news
about her son and is comforted by Beulah. Doubles as Margie and Mickey.

JERRY LEE LEWIS — 20. Rock ‘n’ roll’s legendary piano prodigy and celebrated Last Man Standing. Must
play piano at an expert level.

CARL PERKINS — 24. Lead guitar player, singer, the originator of one of the first rock ‘n’ roll hits, “Blue
Suede Shoes.” Must play guitar at an expert level.

JOHNNY CASH — 24. Singer, guitar player, a giant of American music at the dawn of his epic career.
Must play guitar at an expert level.

DYANNE — Mid-20s. An aspiring singer, Elvis’ girlfriend.

ELVIS PRESLEY — 21. The first, and still, undisputed king of rock ‘n’ roll. Must play guitar at an expert
level.

BROTHER JAY — Mid-20s. Bass player, brother of Carl Perkins. Must play bass at an expert level.

FLUKE — Mid-20s. Must play drums at an expert level.

SAM PHILLIPS — 33. The Father of Rock ‘n’ Roll and founder of Sun Records; discovered Jerry Lee Lewis,
Elvis, Cash, Perkins, and many others, including Roy Orbison and B.B. King. A towering and charismatic
figure in American music.

wonderful sense of humor. Former ‘ugly duckling’. From New York’s lower east side, quirky, fearless,
comedic finesse, acting range from impassioned teen to major star. Must be a strong mover.

Nick Arnstein (24-40) Male, Lead Baritone. Good-looking but unsuccessful gambler. A gambler and the
love of Fanny’s life, suave, sophisticated, and charming; Has a strong middle range voice

Mrs Brice (40+) Female, Supporting Mezzo-soprano. Fanny's sharp-tongued but sympathetic mother
tough Brooklyn/Jewish mother, dry funny character

Mrs Strakosh (40+) Female, Supporting Mezzo-soprano. Typical pessimistic Jewish mother, Mrs.
Brice's poker playing friend and neighbor strong, shrill yet funny

Mrs Meeker (40+) Female, Supporting Mezzo-soprano. Another of Mrs. Brice's cohorts, a comedienne

Mrs O’Malley - Female, Supporting Mezzo-soprano. The fourth in Mrs. Brice's quartet of friends; Irish

Eddie Ryan (20-35) Male, Supporting Baritone. A song and dance man and Fanny’s closest friend who

Florenz Ziegfeld - Male, Featured Spoken. The famed Broadway producer, elegant and distinguished,

role.

Tom Keeney - Male, A tough Vaudeville producer who gives Fanny her first break.

Emma (25-40) Female, Fanny’s dresser and confidante, the voice of reason, meek yet strong

HARRY CHAPIN - Early 30s - Singer who plays acoustic guitar. A restless, charismatic force of nature -
funny, shameless, relentless, impossibly driven - who performs every moment of his life at full throttle.
Should bear a physical resemblance to the actual Harry in appearance and/or stature, with a vocal range
and tone similar to Harry's.

SANDY CHAPIN – Late 30s-early 40s. Harry's Wife. The show's narrator and emotional anchor. Smart,
artistic but also grounded with a dry knowing wit. - a force to be reckoned with. ALTO.

TOM CHAPIN – Mid 30s - Singer who plays acoustic guitar. Harry’s younger brother who reads as the
more mature one. Warm, but direct. Has an athlete’s confidence, and gets to the point quickly. Tom is
the straight man and the one who makes the hard calls. TENOR.

STEVE CHAPIN – Early 30s. Singer with real keyboard chops. Harry’s youngest brother - "kid brother"
energy in an adult's body. Slightly nervous but always enthusiastic. The excitable half of the Tom-and-
Steve double act who delivers the punch lines. A true musician at heart. TENOR.

JOHN “BIG JOHN” WALLACE – Late 30s. Singer who plays Bass Guitar. Harry's childhood friend from
Brooklyn, bass player in the band and a major storytelling voice in the show - deep-voiced, deadpan,
wise-cracking, with the quiet integrity and loyalty that anchors the wilder energy around him. and the
falsetto bridge BARITONE with multi-octave range including legit classical sound (as sung in "Mr. Tanner)
and falsetto (as sung in "Taxi).

CHARACTER TRACKS (2) - 2 Male-identifying characters who sing and will double as the following
roles: Bill Ayres, a Catholic priest turned rock radio host who becomes Harry's partner in the hunger fight;
Senator Pat Leahy, a dry, sharp Vermont Democrat amused by Harry's Capitol bathroom ambush; Sandy's
First Husband, a cold, dismissive Brooklyn Heights blue-blood; Clive Davis and Jac Holzman, rival record
label heads competing to sign Harry — one all swagger, the other quietly relentless; and President Jimmy
Carter, warm and patient in his signature cardigan, who can't get a word in edgewise - among others.
