ABOUT THE COMPANY
The Random Farms Kids’ Theater is a not-for-profit organization that offers musical theater programming to young people from kindergarten to college. The company was founded in 1995 and currently serves approximately 1,200 young people each year with an annual operating budget of $1.7 million. Random Farms operates primarily in Westchester County, NY, though many of its participants travel from nearby counties in NY, as well as CT and NJ. There are currently 11 full-time employees, plus several part-time employees and independent contractors.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Seeking a full-time Director / Choreographer to join the programming team. This individual should love working with children and be confident teaching ages 5-13. Experience directing and choreographing youth theater is essential. The ideal candidate will not only direct, choreograph, and collaborate with their fellow staff members on the creation of shows, but will also be confident vocally modeling melody lines to students (piano skills are not required). Candidate should have a positive attitude, creative mind, collaborative nature, never-ending patience, and an ego they’re willing to check at the door.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Independently create age appropriate choreography and blocking for students (grades K-2, 3-8)
- Create audition material, collect props, and gather sound effects
- Direct / choreograph / vocally teach music for shows with children in grades K-8, 5 days/wk
- Assist backstage as needed
- If scheduling allows, teach 1-2 weekly group classes (class subjects determined by employee with supervisor’s guidance) and take on private weekly acting students
- Work with staff to determine show titles and explore new programming ideas each season
- Write post-audition student feedback for parents
- Answer parent questions about programming
- Attend special events (approx 3-4 / yr)
- Assist with maintaining / organizing the studio
JOB DETAILS
Start Date: January 2025
Salary: $50,000 / year
Benefits: Health insurance (partially paid by employer), 401k, paid time off (vacation, sick, personal)
Schedule: In person – 1 weekend day and 4 weekdays per week (personal teaching schedule to change quarterly as programs restart; alternate schedule variations might occur); required to be at all tech and performances for assigned shows.
Travel: The organization’s rehearsal studio is in Elmsford, NY. Performances and special events are at several venues throughout Westchester County, NY. Employees must provide their own transportation. A travel stipend will be provided to employees living 15 miles or more from the studio.
