DESCRIPTION

The Department of Drama at the Tisch School of the Arts at NYU seeks several individuals to work evening and weekend shifts at its facilities located at 721 Broadway and/or 181 Mercer Street. On a temporary part-time basis, will supervise, coordinate, and monitor the facilities operations of the Drama Department’s theater and rehearsal spaces, ensure compliance with all applicable policies including but not limited to safety, health, and space usage; will assist in the maintenance and operation of the facilities of the Department of Drama, affecting small repairs and reporting larger issues to NYU’s maintenance department; will assist in supervising the load-in and strikes of student productions and provide technical guidance in regard to construction and installation. These positions report to the Department of Drama Operations Manager.

Basic knowledge of accepted theatrical lighting, scenery, and sound fabrication and installation practices is preferred, but not required. Must be able to demonstrate clear, appropriate, and effective communication with a diverse audience including students and members of the public. Must be able to demonstrate a professional, courteous, and helpful demeanor. Prior experience in an educational environment is helpful. Must be available to work 15-20 hours per week within the following time frame: Mon-­Fri 5pm-11pm, Sat-­ Sun, 9am-4pm and 4pm-11pm. The salary for this position is $22.00/hour.


DUTIES INCLUDE:

● Supervise, coordinate, and schedule studio and theater operations during weeknights and weekends for the Department of Drama

● Enforce all policies regarding health, safety, and space usage in the Department of Drama. Adhere to standards as determined by OSHA, NIOSH, NYU Department of Environmental Safety and Health and the Department of Drama

● Assist Production Managers and Administrators to identify, establish and maintain policies guiding the safe and efficient use of theater and rehearsal/classroom space

● Make recommendations for repairs and upgrades

● Basic knowledge of theatrical lighting and sound systems, as well as general carpentry experience, is a plus

● Coordinate with NYU cleaning contractors and building management as required

● Perform small maintenance and general housekeeping duties

● Enforce building hours as established by the Department of Drama

● Ensure that spaces are left neat and tidy at the end of day

● Must interact in a courteous and professional manner with faculty, students, staff, and guests

● Serve as Production Resource Office contact for all stage managers and house managers for Drama Department productions

● Must be an excellent communicator

● Must be capable of physically carrying/moving furniture, scenery, and building materials as needed
