Seeking AEA or non-union performers for ENDOMETRIOSIS: THE MUSICAL at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. All rehearsals will take place in Washington, D.C.
Endometriosis: The Musical is an absurdist comedy set in the all-too-real world of the American healthcare system. It follows Jane, a driven young professional with a mystery illness that’s ruining her big business dreams. Even though this show is filled with outlandish characters that often have ridiculous dialogue, it is critical that the show is not played like a farce. The characters are real people with real emotions. We encourage the cast to find the honesty behind the lines and trust that the laughs will come. The distinction between farce and absurdism here really matters: in farce, the characters know they are in a comedy. In absurdist theatre, they don’t. They are simply living their lives, the absurdity is the world around them.
Endometriosis: The Musical has real things to say about chronic illness, medical gaslighting and what it costs women to be believed. It says all of those things while also being genuinely laugh-out-loud funny. It works best when the heart of the show is visible beneath the mayhem.

Seeking:
JANE - Unendingly passionate about her business career, Jane meets an absurd world with unflinching sincerity and heart. JANE is the emotional anchor of the show – but the actor must have real comedy chops! Mezzo.
BOSS and others - Branch Manager of Business, Inc., and a textbook case of being promoted to the point of incompetence. Bold, headstrong, and brimming with a confidence that has never once been questioned…at least not by himself. Baritone or Tenor range.
MIRANDA and others - JANE's best friend and office ally. Miranda is the person who shows up with painkillers before you even knew you needed them. Fiercely loyal, occasionally relentless, and always with the right instincts. Mezzo or Soprano range.
GINA and others - Business, Inc.'s receptionist and self-appointed guardian of company policy. Gina doesn't just follow the rules, she lives the rules. Her commitment to protocol has long since crossed into the surreal. Mezzo or Alto range.
DEREK and others - Not the sharpest tool in the shed, but deeply, genuinely well-meaning. DEREK is a golden retriever – eager to please, tracks mud on the kitchen floor, but we love him anyway. Goes to extraordinary lengths for the BOSS’s approval. Baritone or Tenor range.
MOM and others - A classic Midwestern mom: casseroles, euphemisms, and a strongly held belief that some things are better left unspoken. She is warm and means well, she just doesn’t always have the words. Mezzo or Alto range.
BRAD and others - Every office has one. Brad is a business bro, but one with a genuinely good heart buried under the performance fleece vest. High pop tenor.
