KEY PERSONNEL:

Playwright: Deirdre Girard

Director: Shana Gozansky

SYNOPSIS:

In Crime Fiction, both the audience and crime reporter Maddie are challenged to figure out what is real, what is manipulation and what is a half truth as Maddie’s mystery writing group bands together to find out who is stalking their most famous member. Maddie may get it wrong along the way— more than once— but she boldly navigates the twists and turns the predator has laid down, even when things turn deadly.

SEEKING THE FOLLOWING:

HEATHER: early to mid 40’s (she/her). A bestselling mystery author, she is upbeat, positive, energetic, a mentor to her small group of friends. Heather is also used to being in control, the center of attention, and can be aloof with the broader writing community and her readers.

MADDIE: early to mid 30’s (she/her). A member of Heather's mystery writing group with a background in crime reporting, who is new to mystery writing. She is intense, sometimes impetuous, and driven to succeed, but also self-deprecating and fun.

JESSICA: early to mid 40’s (she/her). Another member of the writing group, Heather’s closest friend in the group: smart, loyal, a bit snarky, somewhat of a loner. She’s written a lot of mysteries but has a certain amount of resentment that she has never been able to break into the bestseller list.

THOMAS: Mid 40’s-early 50’s (He/him). A new member of Heather’s mystery writing group, he is funny, charming, down to earth and a mesmerizing storyteller. He hasn’t had a bestseller in years, but appears to take it in his stride.

DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION:

At Moonbox, we believe that the stories we tell are important. They sustain and preserve our community, our history, and our values. Telling racially diverse stories allows us not only to reflect – but also to reflect on – the complexities of our past. When we join together in the act of storytelling, we are united in ways that transcend the everyday. Together, we can use the power of storytelling to honor our commonalities, celebrate our differences, and address historical discrimination and injustice. We pledge to take this power seriously, and to use our voices and the stories we tell to dismantle the systemic racism and white supremacy engulfing our culture, our country, and our industry .We believe in creating spaces that reflect the diversity of our shared community, both on and off the stage, where under-represented voices, including BIPOC, LGBTQIA2S+, and people living with disabilities feel valued and important. We believe that accessibility is a human right. We are devoted to providing performances and work spaces that can be experienced and enjoyed universally, and to incorporating accessibility planning into our production, design, staffing, and budgeting processes from day one.
