This summer (June–August 2026), Bard SummerScape returns with a vibrant season of dance, theater, opera, music, and the beloved Spiegeltent. Presented by the Fisher Center at Bard, this celebrated multi-arts festival takes place in person on Bard’s idyllic 1,000-acre campus, featuring performances in the stunning Frank Gehry-designed performing arts center.

The Company Management team works as the key artist, staff, and crew services representatives to provide accommodations and services to over 600 SummerScape and Bard Music Festival visiting artists and seasonal staff, specifically in the realms of transportation, housing, and hospitality. The team strives to create a people-centered, hospitality-minded environment for all participants.

Company Management Assistants report to the Company Managers and work closely with artists, production staff, project producers, and administrative staff.

While prior experience is helpful, we are accepting applications from entry-level candidates, including current and/or recently-graduated students who are eager team players and are willing to receive training on specific tasks related to being a Company Management Assistant.

This is a seasonal position from May 21 through August 21, non-exempt, paid hourly at a rate of $16 per hour. Hours will average 35–40 hours/week, including evenings and weekends.

This position requires local residence during the dates listed above. Housing is provided as needed, beginning one day prior to the employment start date and ending at 10am on the day after the employment end date, and includes a single bedroom and shared amenities. Employees will have access to three (3) meals per weekday and two (2) meals per weekend day on campus during the residency period. Should campus dining agreements or options change from the time of the agreement, an equivalent per diem will be provided.

Please note that room and board arrangements may differ for current Bard College students.

RESPONSIBILITIES

General responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Supporting the day-to-day facilitation of room setup, turnover, amenities, and other housing needs (e.g. making beds, moving fans/lamps, key distribution, etc.)

Staffing the festival reception desk to assist with company member check-in/check-out, general orientation, and questions

Creating a welcoming environment as the first person many artists and staff will meet

Providing thorough and accurate campus information to artists and staff, including directions and space usage

Providing accurate information to artists and staff about SummerScape events, performance and rehearsal spaces, and the Bard campus upon request

Collaborating with the company management team, escalating questions, requests, and issues as needed to ensure artists and staff receive an accurate and complete response

Facilitating catering, green room hospitality, and other meals/dining needs for festival artists and staff (collecting meal tickets, restocking snack tables, making coffee, etc.)

Driving company vehicles to provide local ground transportation for artist pickups, drop-offs, shopping runs, and other needs in collaboration with company management drivers

Collaborating on the creation of a weekly calendar of on campus and local events to be distributed to staff and artists

Setting up and taking down campus housing for staff which includes making beds and setting amenities.

Supporting the department and company manager area leads as directed, including Hospitality, Transportation, Housing, Opera, and Spiegeltent

Maintaining company management amenity inventory

Have a “no task is too small" mentality

Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

EXPERIENCE

This is an entry-level position

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

A welcoming demeanor and positive attitude are a must; Company Management team members are often the first people that visiting artists, personnel, and the public will meet while at the festival

Superior attention to detail

Ability to work closely with other team members, and comfort working and solving problems in a fast-paced environment, including escalating to managers as needed

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

EXPERIENCE

Experience in hospitality, retail, or customer service roles

A valid driver’s license for more than 12 months, due to the requirements of Bard’s Transportation department

A satisfactory driving record

Candidates should be comfortable and will be expected to drive in and around the Hudson Valley (Rural Highways), Interstate Highways, within New York City, and the Albany area

Candidates must be comfortable driving passengers, including artists and staff

Van-driving experience is a plus

Interest or background in the performing arts is highly encouraged, with work experience and/or studies in the performing arts

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Proficiency with Google Suite (Calendar, Sheets, Docs, shared Drives)

Experience with Airtable a plus

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position requires hours during some evenings/weekends, reflective of the dynamic schedule of a performing arts festival

Ability to lift up to 45 pounds

Bard’s beautiful 1,000-acre campus is situated on the east bank of the Hudson River in Annandale-on Hudson, New York. The Fisher Center was born from the Bard Music Festival, founded in 1990, which, for the first 13 years of its existence, occupied several spaces on campus, including a large tent. Each summer, the Music Festival focuses on the life, work, and influences of one composer, promoting new ways of understanding and presenting the history of music to a contemporary audience. When the Fisher Center and its two theaters opened in 2003, the summer festival expanded to include a fully staged opera, as well as theater and dance performances. The highly acclaimed opera program brings unjustly neglected works to the stage in major productions—often making their US debuts.

Through Fisher Center LAB, the Center’s acclaimed residency and commissioning program, artists are provided with custom-made support toward their innovative projects and their work has been seen in over 100 communities around the world. Resident choreographer Pam Tanowitz’s 2018 Four Quartets was recognized as “the greatest creation of dance theater so far this century” by The New York Times. In 2019, the Fisher Center won the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical for Daniel Fish’s production of Oklahoma!, which began life in 2007 as an undergraduate production at Bard and was produced professionally by the Fisher Center in 2015 before transferring to New York City. The Fisher Center is home to several of Bard’s academic programs in the performing arts.
