DESCRIPTION
We are looking for engaging, compassionate individuals from the arts who are interested in supporting elderly adults. A companion position can require just several hours per week, or as much as 30+ hours per week.
Duet is a companion care agency serving Manhattan, Northern Brooklyn, and parts of Queens and the Bronx. Our mission is to connect our elder clients with outstanding companions who can improve their quality of life through social engagement, meaningful activities, and help with daily tasks that get more difficult with age.
This job is first and foremost about being a great companion to your client. This might mean engaging in conversation on topics of common interest or participating in activities together. In addition, you may be asked to prepare meals, run errands, or help with household tasks. Note that we do NOT require you to provide hands-on or personal care services (e.g. bathing or transferring assistance) to our clients.
Many of our clients are artists themselves, or lifelong patrons of the arts. They would benefit greatly from a strong connection to a working artist with whom they can share their life. This is not a position where you will be "left to your own devices" to support someone. You will receive ongoing support from our staff and social work team, as well as a detailed briefing on any client you meet.
Typical Activities and Responsibilities
• Providing companionship to older adults and individuals with chronic conditions; this may include discussing current events or shared interests, or taking trips to cultural or entertainment venues
• Assisting with non-physical tasks such as meal preparation, grocery shopping, and light housework like folding laundry or throwing away leftover food items
• Safety supervision, standby assistance with ambulation or certain other tasks, medication reminders, adherence to care plans
• For clients with dementia, you’ll need to communicate effectively, provide mental stimulation, and/or safety supervision, as necessary.
Please contact us if you have a passion for supporting others, and an appreciation for the older generation. To apply, please email a relevant work resume and your contact information. Be sure to mention that you first saw this posting on playbill.com and we look forward to hearing from you!
