On the verge of a mysterious operation that will ultimately transition him into the body of his cat, Mr. Bronner spends his last human day with his young neighbor, Sandy. As he confronts the loss of his partner and the slow shrinking of his social world, this minimalist dystopian short play explores grief, loneliness, and the absurd sacrifices we make to feel “alive.”

MR BRONNER

Description: Quiet and unassuming. Retired, spends most of time lost in his own thoughts, in the past. The closest thing to a best friend is his next door neighbor, SANDY.
SANDY*
Age Range: early 20s
Gender: Female
Ethnicity: Open
Description: Neighbor of MR BRONNER. Speaks before she thinks. Excitable and easily distracted. Full of wonder.
TARA // STRANGER**
Age Range: 30-40
Gender: Female
Ethnicity: Open
Description: A medical professional: serious and respectful, borderline cold and dismissive // Unassuming people-pleaser. Wants to do the right thing, but sometimes oversteps others’ personal boundaries.
*The role of SANDY has already been cast.
