CASTING NOTICE: The Boys in the Band by Mart Crowley

Performance Dates: May 2nd, 3rd, 8th, 9th & 10th

A Staten Island–based production of Mart Crowley’s groundbreaking play The Boys in the Band is now seeking submissions for the following roles. This intimate, character-driven ensemble piece requires actors with strong emotional range, precision with dialogue, and a deep commitment to truthful storytelling.

BERNARD

(Black, Male - late 20s to mid-30s)

A thoughtful, soft-spoken librarian with a warm heart and a quiet strength. Bernard often serves as the grounding presence within the group, though he carries his own wounds and vulnerabilities. Actor should bring authenticity, emotional intelligence, and nuance.

COWBOY

(White, Male 20s)

A sweet, attractive, somewhat naïve young man hired as a birthday gift. Cowboy brings levity and charm to intense moments, but should never be played as a caricature—seeking an actor with genuine warmth, comedic instinct, and strong physical presence.

This production and all rehearsals will take place on Staten Island. If you are interested in submitting for the listed roles, please submit an acting reel or a one minute monologue with the role you are submitting to in the subject line.

*Actors must be available on weekends and Tuesday evenings*

Must have reliable transportation
($100 travel stipend will be provided).
