DESCRIPTION

Hideaway Circus is seeking an audio technician to join their open-air touring summer circus Canvas Sky. The technician works closely with the Production Manager and Technical Director to ensure a smooth operation of the sound department for the traveling circus. The 2024 tour includes travel with the circus throughout the East Coast and Southern United States.

Rehearsal & Tech Schedule: May 13, 2024 - May 31, 2024 (Exact Start Date TBD)

Rehearsal Location: North American Culture Lab, 110 Highland Lake Rd, Highland Lake, NY 12743

Performance Schedule: June 1, 2024 – Feb 2, 2024. (6 Shows Per Week)

Accommodation: Housing provided in company bunkhouse, private individual room, shared bathroom.

Duties & Responsibilities

Safely load and unload technical equipment during set-up and tear down at each site.

Operate the sound console during shows to execute sound cues and changes as needed

Troubleshoot any technical issues that arise during shows, including fixing wiring, resetting equipment, and addressing any issues with microphones, speakers, or other sound equipment.

Keep an inventory of all sound equipment and supplies, and order new items as needed to maintain an adequate stock.

Perform routine maintenance on all sound equipment to ensure it is in good working order, and coordinate with outside vendors for more complex repairs.

Work closely with other crew members, such as the lighting technician and stagehands, to ensure that all technical aspects of the show are coordinated smoothly.

Pick up rented equipment at the start of the tour and return the equipment at the end. Drive a company vehicle which may including towing equipement between venues.

Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds.

Requirements:

3+ years of experience in a circus, theatrical, live performance, or equivalent setting.

Friendly and professional attitude, able to work on schedule and under pressure.

Ability to read, understand, and execute technical drawings and paperwork

Understanding of sound propagation and acoustics to optimize sound quality for different performance spaces.

Ability to hang, circuit, focus, and troubleshoot sound equipment such as speakers, microphones, and amplifiers, using appropriate rigging and mounting techniques.

Skills in sound design and operation, must have an understanding of Qlab and Ableton; knowledge of theatrical sound design techniques. Proficiency in Vectorworks, Lightwright, Microsoft Office Suite, GSuite is a plus.

Physical Demands:

Work involves standing, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, stooping, and other physical activities consistent with setting up heavy equipment. Work may include lifting, carrying, or moving objects and equipment weighing over 50 pounds.

$850.00 – $1,000.00 per week
