This summer (June–August 2025), Bard SummerScape returns with a vibrant season of dance, theater, opera, music, and the beloved Spiegeltent. Presented by the Fisher Center at Bard, this celebrated multi-arts festival takes place in person on Bard’s idyllic 1,000-acre campus, featuring performances in the stunning Frank Gehry-designed performing arts center.
The Audio Engineer is part of the Audio team in the Production Department and supports the execution of audio elements and needs. They report to the Audio Supervisor and work closely with other production team members and sound designers. We are seeking candidates for both A1 and A2 positions.
This is a seasonal position from June 6 - August 19*, non-exempt (overtime eligible), paid hourly at a rate range of $20-25/hr depending on experience. Hours will average 35-40 hours/week, with the potential for overtime. There are multiple engineer positions available.
*Please note that there are additional Audio Engineer positions available from June 6 through July 8.
Local residence is required during the dates listed above; campus housing will be provided free of charge if needed, including a single bedroom and shared amenities based on availability. Employees will have access to three (3) meals per weekday and two (2) meals per weekend day on campus during the residency period. Should campus dining agreements or options change from the time of the agreement, an equivalent per diem will be provided. PLEASE NOTE: Room and board may differ for current Bard College students.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Job Responsibilities
Maintain a safe, healthy, and inclusive workplace at all times
Assist the Audio Engineers in the preparation, installation, operation, and maintenance of all audio aspects (including backline, recordings, backstage communication, rehearsal support, and production intercom) of all productions and special events
Actively participate in all audio work calls as assigned
Create audio paperwork as needed
Assist the Audio Supervisor in maintaining all audio equipment, including rental gear
Attend and work all technical rehearsals and performances for productions as assigned
Provide audio support for all rehearsals and concerts as assigned
Assist the FC Video Department and outside vendors in the planning, installation, maintenance, and operation of streaming systems

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
EXPERIENCE
A1 requires previous professional Audio Engineer experience
A2 requires previous professional theatrical experience, with some focus on the sound department
Basic knowledge of audio equipment, cabling, and backstage protocol
General troubleshooting skills for audio systems
Strong knowledge of digital audio consoles, the Google App suite, QLab, Shure Wireless Workbench, and Clear-Com Freespeak systems
Knowledge of electrical safety practices and theatrical rigging systems
Ability to climb stairs and ladders
Ability to move and lift objects up to 50 lbs.
Ability to frequently walk and stand
Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays, as set by production schedule
Ability to push, pull, hang, reach, lean, and balance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Familiarity with the performing arts; experience with opera and/or various music genres
Experience with online live-streamed events
At least three years experience as an Audio Engineer, preferably in live and/or performing arts events
WORKING CONDITIONS
Frequently works at heights above 6 feet
Regularly exposed to vibrations, noises, and electrical connections
