The People’s Theatre (TPT) seeks an Audience & Community Experience Manager to lead all public-facing operations as we prepare to open our new 20,000-square-foot performing arts center, the Centro Cultural Inmigrante, in Inwood in September 2026.
This role will shape how audiences and community members experience the building—ensuring it operates as a welcoming, safe, and vibrant cultural home. The Manager will establish front-of-house systems, oversee hospitality and café/bar operations, and support workforce development and community use of public spaces.
This is a full-time, exempt position beginning July 2026, reporting to the General Manager.
• Lead all front-of-house operations including box office, lobby management, concessions, and audience services
• Hire, train, and supervise FOH staff and house managers
• Ensure a welcoming, inclusive, and well-coordinated patron experience
• Manage lobby flow and coordinate with production on house openings and event timing
• Troubleshoot ticketing issues, patron concerns, and day-of-event operations
• Maintain FOH systems, reports, and equipment
• Oversee in-house café and bar operations as part of the overall audience experience
• Supervise the Bar/Café Manager and support staffing, scheduling, and service standards
• Align café/bar operations with performances, events, and lobby activity
• Ensure compliance with alcohol service regulations
• Serve as the on-site lead for patron safety during events and public programming
• Respond to incidents and train staff in safety, de-escalation, and emergency procedures
• Monitor public spaces and ensure smooth, safe operations across events
• Coordinate with internal teams and emergency services as needed
• Support workforce development programs by training and supervising young adults in FOH roles
• Help integrate participants into daily operations in meaningful ways
• Coordinate public-facing community and advocacy programming in shared spaces
• Ensure the building operates as a welcoming and well-managed community hub
• Track FOH-related revenue including ticketing, concessions, and café/bar sales
• Support reporting, staffing systems, and operational workflows
• Identify trends in audience experience and building use
• 3+ years of experience in front-of-house, hospitality, or event operations (5+ preferred)
• Experience supervising staff in customer-facing environments
• Strong leadership, organization, and problem-solving skills
• Commitment to hospitality, inclusion, and community-centered service
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Experience in theatres, cultural venues, or similar settings preferred
• Experience with workforce development or youth programs is a plus
• Spanish proficiency is a big plus
• Willingness to obtain required safety certifications (CPR, First Aid, FDNY Certificates, etc.)
Compensation & Timeline
• Start: July 2026.
• Annual salary: $70,000–$75,000, commensurate with experience, plus benefits.
