Position Summary

The Associate Marketing & Communications Director is a leadership position within the Marketing & Communications Department, responsible for helping to shape and execute comprehensive, audience-centered marketing and communications strategies that advance Asolo Rep’s artistic, institutional, and financial goals.

This position plays a critical role in helping drive earned revenue through ticket sales and program enrollment; stewarding the organization’s brand and voice; leading press and media relations; advising on digital and social media strategy; and ensuring that Asolo Rep’s story is told with clarity, creativity, and purpose across platforms.

Serving as lead publicist and editorial lead, the Associate Director collaborates closely with colleagues across the organization to translate artistic vision and institutional priorities into compelling campaigns and narratives. The ideal candidate demonstrates enthusiasm for the mission of Asolo Rep, a deep appreciation for the performing arts, and a commitment to best practices, innovation, and inclusive storytelling.

Essential Job Functions

Strategy, Campaigns & Audience Development

· Collaborate with the Marketing & Communications Director to develop and execute integrated marketing strategies that drive subscription sales, single-ticket revenue, program enrollment, and contributed income

· Support campaign planning across multiple channels, including digital, print, email, press, partnerships, and on-site activations

· Leverage CRM and email automation tools (e.g., Prospect2) to support targeted, data-informed audience segmentation, campaign execution, and lifecycle communications

· Identify opportunities to grow and diversify audiences

Brand, Storytelling & Editorial Leadership

  • Serve as institutional brand steward, ensuring consistency of voice, tone, and messaging across all external communications
  • Advise on and help shape compelling narratives around productions, education programs, artists, and institutional initiatives
  • Collaborate on copy development for campaigns, press materials, digital content, and institutional communications, maintaining high editorial standards

Press, Media & Public Relations

  • Serve as lead publicist for Asolo Rep, overseeing regional press and media strategy
  • Secure earned media coverage for productions, new works, education programs, artists, and organizational initiatives
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists, editors, media outlets, and cultural partners
  • Draft, edit, and distribute press releases, pitches, media alerts, and related materials

Digital & Social Media Strategy

  • Collaborate with the Marketing & Communications Director to set, refine, and implement social media strategy aligned with institutional goals
  • Guide content planning, storytelling approach, and campaign integration across social platforms
  • Monitor performance metrics and trends, making strategic recommendations to optimize reach, engagement, and conversion

Project Management, Collaboration & Leadership

· Proactively collaborate with internal departments to identify marketing and communications needs, advise on strategy, and manage workflow

· Oversee and utilize project management platforms (e.g., Asana) to scope projects, establish timelines, assign tasks, track progress, and ensure accountability across the department

· Ensure projects are prioritized effectively, resourced appropriately, and completed on schedule

· Supervise, mentor, and support direct reports, fostering professional growth, collaboration, and clarity of expectations

· Represent the Marketing & Communications Department in cross-departmental meetings and initiatives

Budgeting, Analytics & Reporting

  • Monitor sales and revenue performance related to marketing initiatives and make strategic recommendations
  • Assist in the development, tracking, and ongoing evaluation of departmental budgets
  • Utilize reporting and analytics tools to assess campaign performance and inform future strategy

Organizational Leadership

  • Serve as a departmental representative and decision-maker as needed in the absence of the Marketing & Communications Director
  • Attend and actively participate in departmental, interdepartmental, and institutional meetings
  • Regularly attend Asolo Rep performances, programs, and events to remain closely connected to the work

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in marketing, advertising, public relations, communications, or a related field
  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in marketing or communications; performing arts and non-profit experience preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current marketing and communications best practices, including digital strategy and audience engagement
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with strong editorial judgment
  • Skilled editor and proofreader with solid knowledge of AP Style
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing, mentoring, and motivating staff
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across departments
  • Experience working with CRM or ticketing systems (Tessitura or similar preferred)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management and collaboration platforms (e.g., Teams, Asana, Slack)
  • Comfort working some evenings and weekends as required by performance schedules
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods
