DESCRIPTION

The Startup is a brand new musical premiering its workshop production at The Flea Theater in NYC in April 2026. We are looking for a dedicated, kind and efficient Assistant Stage Manager to join our amazing team for this upcoming production!

Show Synopsis:
The Startup is a sharp, satirical new musical about the price we pay for digital fame. Set in the cutthroat world of Big Tech, it follows Chip Cooper and his idealistic team as they try to build a more ethical social media platform, just as their company teeters on the edge of collapse.

With biting humor and bold heart, The Startup dives into our tangled relationship with technology, tackling everything from social media use and data privacy to influencer culture and the rise of AI. It’s a timely story about ambition, integrity, and what we're willing to sacrifice in the pursuit of success.

ASM Responsibilities:

• Support the Stage Manager in coordinating and managing all rehearsals, technical rehearsals, and performances for the workshop production of The Startup.

• Assist with daily rehearsal operations, including setup, prop tracking, scene transitions, and maintaining a clean and organized rehearsal space.

• Prepare and update run sheets, prop lists, and cue documentation under the guidance of the Stage Manager and Production Manager.

• Oversee backstage operations during technical rehearsals and performances, including performer entrances, quick changes, and prop handoffs.

• Assist in calling cues or running backstage tracks as assigned, ensuring accuracy and consistency throughout the production run.

• Communicate effectively with the Stage Manager, technical team, and cast, helping to coordinate transitions and resolve issues quickly and calmly.

• Attend all production meetings, technical rehearsals, and performances, remaining flexible to evolving production needs throughout the workshop process.

• Adhere to the developmental nature of the workshop and remain open to adjustments during rehearsals and previews.

• Communicate respectfully and professionally with all members of the company and adhere to Equity Showcase Code standards.

• Assist in maintaining a safe, inclusive, and collaborative working environment, ensuring that backstage operations meet the highest standards of professionalism and safety.
