Job Title: Assistant Stage Manager - AGMA
Department: Production
Reports To (Job Title): Production Stage Manager and Stage Manager
Compensation: AGMA 22-Week Position, $1697.56 per week

Job Purpose: Under the direction of the Production Stage Manager and Stage Manager, the Assistant Stage Manager efficiently prepares all activities and technical elements for rehearsals, performances, and production related events as assigned. The ASM will assist in all matters to ensure productions are in line with the vision of the Artistic staff.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Administrative

  • Assist in creating, maintaining, and updating all required paperwork for all productions which includes both on and off-stage activities and performances
  • Record and edit new and existing repertoire in rehearsals as required.
  • Distribute content to artistic, production, music, and administrative staff
  • Attend and participate in weekly production meeting
  • Generate and distribute memos and daily notes and call board documents as required

Rehearsals and Performances

  • Ensure rehearsal studios are spiked with accurate and appropriate measurements for rehearsals
  • Support studio and stage rehearsals
  • As directed by PSM or SM assist and help support management of A/V equipment
  • Organize and coordinate the use of performance and rehearsal props
  • As required, calls all assigned ballet repertoire-related cues, i.e., lighting, followspot, sound, flying, deck, carpentry, audio, projections, etc.
  • Supervise and direct crews as needed, check preset lists, cue elements as required, and assist in the running of curtain calls
  • Consult with PSM, SM, Technical Manager, and Director of Artistic Operations as needed for rehearsal efficiency

Day to Day + Health and Safety

  • Uphold AGMA rules regarding dancers onstage and in rehearsals in coordination with other collective bargaining agreements
  • Assist PSM and SM in overseeing the safety of all performers and staff in rehearsal and performance situations
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned by PSM and SM

  • Artistic Staff, Company Dancers, Production Staff, Operations Department and Music Department

External Contacts:

  • Guest Ballet Rehearsal Directors, Choreographers, Designers, Composers, Guest Musicians

Years and Type of Related Experience Required:

  • Minimum of five years professional experience with a performance arts institution
  • Minimum of three years professional experience with union environment (preferred)
  • Minimum of one year professional experience with a professional dance company
  • Thorough knowledge of cues, dance vocabulary, musical score

Physical Demands:

  • Lift and/or move up to 50lbs.
  • Stand for extended periods of time
  • Climb stairs and maneuver around equipment
  • Work a 6-day work week, including nights and weekends

Special Software/Equipment Used:

  • Proficiency in MAC OS
  • Proficiency in Office 365
  • Ability to operate audio/video equipment
  • Knowledge of File Maker Pro and Premiere (preferred, but not required)
