POSITION OVERVIEW
The Assistant Hair & Makeup Supervisor is responsible for loading in and out the show, running a show track, and assisting the Hair & Makeup Supervisor with all WHAM related tasks. They assist in supervising local stagehands to load-in and load-out the show and run performances.
ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Become familiar with hair and makeup processes, supplies, and travel methods.
- Assist in loading and securing elements in touring trailers for various departments.
- Lead and direct at local stagehands to assist in loading the show; oversee the local crew during performances
- Teach the local crew members any show cues necessary
- Perform all show cues not done by a local
- Report when supplies are getting low or when a wig is damaged and needs repair; keep road boxes organized
- Perform work calls when needed per the direction of the Hair & Makeup Supervisor
- Recognize unsafe work and report it to the Head Carpenter.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS & ATTRIBUTES
- Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to completing both complex and routine tasks with precision.
- Technical theatre experience is valuable; diverse backgrounds in the performing arts are welcomed. Previous national touring experience recommended.
- Collaborative team player, comfortable working long hours in close quarters with different types of personalities.
- Flexible and willing to work an 8-show a week schedule, which may include additional calls outside of regular performances for rehearsals
- Ability to adapt to varying loud sound and flashing lighting environments
- Comfortable working in various spaces that may be dark and cramped; adaptability is key in different environments.
- Excellent practical, problem-solving, organizational, planning and time management skills.

- Be a collaborative team player who is self-motivated and can work autonomously
- Friendly, positive attitude
- Able to physically move 75 pounds, be comfortable lifting and walking backwards, and be comfortable walking up and down stairs.
- Valid Driver’s License / A valid Driver’s License is preferred but not mandatory
- A valid passport or travel document that allows for international travel
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
- Relevant experience in theatre, film, television, or other entertainment industry.
- 1+ years experience in hair and makeup for touring shows
- Cosmetology or barber license preferred but not required
- Experience with prosthetic makeup application a plus.
