The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center (CMS) invites applications for the role of Artistic Planning and Special Projects Manager, a pivotal position at the world’s premier chamber music institution. The Artistic Planning and Special Projects Manager is as an integral member of the CMS ‘s Artistic Planning and Production Department. This position oversees multiple, artistically related areas, including digital program approval processes, development events, and special projects, particularly interdepartmental projects. This position also works as part of the team that produces all CMS New York-based concert series and assists with the application and audition process of the Bowers Program. Furthermore, this position collaborates on artistic initiatives, including the weekly radio programs, with the Director of Artistic Planning, Production, and Administration (DAPPA), to whom this position reports. In addition, this position works closely with the Director of Digital Content, Director of Development, Director of Artistic Planning and Touring, and Associate Director of Production and Venue Relations.

Responsibilities:

Artistic Planning Support

  • Be available to attend dress rehearsals both in Alice Tully Hall and Rose Studio
  • Help track repertoire requests
  • Compile play lists for Artistic Directors, as needed
  • Conduct research regarding repertoire and artists, as requested
  • Compile, maintain, and update lists of repertoire options from artists as a reference for DAPPA and Co-Artistic Directors

Project Management

Serve as internal producer and project manager for CMS special projects and institutional initiatives, including films/videos (Artist Notes, Composers Notes, etc.), promotional shoots, interviews, recording sessions, etc.

Communicate with all necessary CMS Departments, including Media, Administration, Development and Marketing to ensure clarity of details, budget, required written agreements, licensing, etc. - provide updates to DAPPA and ED/Directors, as needed

Communicate regularly with artists and external vendors regarding project details

Create, disseminate, track and collect any needed contracts and/or agreements; submit payment requests for artists and vendors

Digital Initiatives

Collaborate with DAPPA in curating the annual national radio series, consisting of 26 new and 26 previously-aired programs; compile lists of eligible recordings and make initial proposal to DAPPA; communicate draft proposal to Co-Artistic Directors for approval; send approved program list to Director of Digital Content; maintain records of all radio programs for DAPPA and Co-Artistic Directors

Help curate program suggestions for All Arts, collaborating with DAPPA on proposals, communicating with producer at All Arts, and overseeing deliverables from Media to All Arts

Help curate program suggestions for Medici.tv, collaborating with DAPPA on proposals, communicating with producers at Medici.tv, and overseeing deliverables from Media to Medici.tv

Performance Recording

  • Oversee and administer performance recording process at CMS; work with CMS staff and audio engineers to establish best practices and procedures for all performance recordings
  • Communicate with audio engineer to receive performance recordings
  • Communicate with Artists to administer performance recording approval process
  • Recommend scope of editing options of performance recordings to artists
  • Communicate with both Artists and audio engineer to make any necessary edits and secure final approval from Artists
  • Make performance recordings available to CMS staff and artists as is appropriate
  • Communicate with Media team to ensure proper tracking for the archive; update ArtsVision records
  • Review titling and lower thirds in Digital Encores before posing on CMS website

Bowers Program

· Coordinate application materials with DAPPA and work with Marketing staff to update the CMS website with these materials

· Monitor submitted applications, make sure that all video links are accessible, and organize for review by Artistic Directors and DAPPA

· Serve as the primary contact for applicant questions

· Contract all artist panelists; coordinate hotel with AP staff and communicate to panelists; process payment and travel reimbursements

· In conjunction with DAPPA, schedule live auditions, including rehearsals, and communicate to applicants and artists

· Manage the live audition days onsite, including panelists

· Maintain files and records of the program; provide reports to DAPPA, ED, and Artistic Director as requested

Development Events

  • Collaborate with Artistic Directors and DAPPA in coordination with the Development Department to curate programs for development events
  • Attend site visits of new spaces to determine feasibility
  • Manage elements of production of these events and serve as Artist Liaison
  • Create, disseminate, track, collect and follow up on all artist development contracts
  • Submit artist payrolls for development events

Concert Production

  • Serve in a variety of production roles for all New York performances within a concert-duty rotation system as determined by the DAPPA in coordination with the Associate Director of Production and Venue Relations, as follows:

· Alice Tully Hall: act as Production Supervisor or Production Associate for mainstage season concerts; communicate with stagehands and other Lincoln Center staff; review details with Production Manager

· Rose Studio: act as Production Supervisor or Production Associate (handling staging requirements, stage moves, lighting, timing of entrances) for all programs in the Rose Studio Series, New Music Series, and Recital Series

· Collaborate with Production Manager on all production needs in the CMS Rose Studio and rehearsal spaces, including rehearsals, recording sessions, pre-concert talk activity, artist video interviews, etc.

Qualifications:

· Strong classical music knowledge with significant familiarity of the chamber music repertoire

· Minimum 3 years of related experience

· Great team player, pro-active, self-motivated and responsive. CMS operates collaboratively, cultivating the principles of chamber music.

· Outstanding inclusive communication skills

· Experience and demonstrated success in project management

· Familiarity with audio recording processes and equipment preferred

· Strong problem-solving ability

· High level of energy, enthusiasm and productivity

· Availability to work evening and weekends, as needed

Compensation and Benefits:

This is a full-time position, working from the CMS offices on the Lincoln Center campus, with a salary range of $65,000-70,000.
