About The Instructor: Internationally respected mime artist, educator, yoga master, and author Janet Carafa blends American and European mime traditions, having trained with Paul J. Curtis and Marcel Marceau. A longtime AMT performer, she uniquely fuses character-driven movement with poetic illusion. Carafa performs, teaches internationally, and developed E-Motion Aerobics™, a trademarked technique using movement, expression, and vocalization to explore and express emotions for all ages, enhancing emotional intelligence and non-verbal communication.

CLOWN/PHYSICAL COMEDY MASTER CLASS: FIVE-CLASS SERIES (TEACHER: MARK STOLZENBERG)

Dates: Fridays, 6-8p

A hands-on learning experience delving into the art of physical comedy on a professional level, emphasizing clown comedy routines, illusion mime, character development, slapstick, physical comedy, and circus skills like juggling and balancing. NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY!

About The Instructor: Mark Stolzenberg, a top-five international circus competitor and former Ringling Bros. clown, has toured globally as a clown and circus artist. He was the first American clown to perform in China. His film "My Father the Clown" was honored at Lincoln Center. Stolzenberg directed and starred in NYC's Northwind Circus and toured with "Pierrot and Pirouette" and "Circus Follies." A frequent performer on "Late Night with David Letterman," New York Magazine called him "one of the hidden delights of NY's little theatres."

PHYSICAL STORYTELLING: FIVE-CLASS SERIES (TEACHER: BILL BOWERS):

Dates: Wednesdays, 6-8p

Students will experience a series of movement exercises that consider Presence, Focus, Physical Awareness and Space work, Individual physical warmups, and group improvisations. With Bill, students will work to strengthen and relax the actor’s body, expand their movement vocabulary, and open the physical imagination.

Using Fundamentals of Etienne Decroux and Marcel Marceau, students will develop a foundation of Corporeal Mime, as well as proficiencies in illusory exercises. The program introduces multiple approaches to creating new physically based theater work and gives the students the opportunity to apply these new techniques in their own performance work. NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY!

About The Instructor: As an actor, mime and educator, Bill Bowers has traveled throughout all 50 of the United States, and 30 countries in Europe and Asia. His Broadway credits include Zazu in The Lion King, and Leggett in The Scarlet Pimpernel, and he has appeared on the stages of Theatre for a New Audience, St. Anne’s Warehouse, EST, Radio City Music Hall, The Kennedy Center, Steppenwolf, LaMaMa, New York Fringe, and HERE.

Bill has been hailed by critics as “the great American mime” and has received top honors at theatre festivals throughout the world. He presently teaches at Stella Adler Center for the Arts and the William Esper Studio, and co-founded PhysFestNYC, an annual festival of Physical Theatre.
