Don’t miss the opportunity to submit your one-act play to A is For’s Playwriting Contest!
The A is For Playwriting Contest engages playwrights who are passionate about abortion rights and reproductive justice. Please submit one-act plays no longer than 90 minutes in length about reproductive justice, including (but not limited to) the topic of abortion.
Submissions are due on Sunday, January 18, 2026 by 11:59PM EST.
Three winners will be announced in late spring 2026, and will receive the following prizes:
1st Place - $5,000

2nd Place - $3,000

3rd Place - $1,500
The winning plays will also be presented as staged readings during our all it takes is ONE-ACT Play Festival in 2026 at a New York City theatre (tbd) with professional NYC actors and director. In June 2025, A is For held their 4th play festival at Playwrights Horizons’ Judy Theater on June 26, 2025.

More so, A is For works at the intersection of the arts and social justice. Art is a powerful tool for change and through our creative initiatives we seek to elevate the human experience of abortion. A is For also has a history of giving back, and provides monthly financial assistance to abortion providers.
