Administrative Assistant (temporary)

The Playwrights Realm, a not-for-profit Off-Broadway theatre company devoted to supporting early-career playwrights along the journey of playwriting, seeks one person for the position of Administrative Assistant. This is a temporary part-time position beginning in January 2026 and reports to the interim Producing Director.


The Admin Assistant is a part-time, non-exempt position, working an average of 10 hours per week, depending on programming, with peaks up to 15 hours per week during moments of heavier programming. Generally, hours will be scheduled during regular office hours (Mon-Fri, 10AM-6PM) The Realm maintains a hybrid work environment, and while some tasks will require time spent in our office (520 8th Avenue), some of this work can be done remotely. Weekly schedule will be determined in conversation with the interim Producing Director.


This is a temporary position, ending May 29th 2026 and is designed to support the Realm during a transition period. This position is a great skill-building opportunity for someone with an interest/trajectory in General Management, Operations, or Finance.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

General Management & Finance:
- Support the Realm’s day to day financial operations including expense and income tracking, and data entry & management in Quickbooks and Excel.
- Maintaining the Realm’s organizational systems by collecting financial supporting documents/receipts, and maintaining organizational files/resources.
- Additional administrative support as needed for other Realm events and programs.

Office Management:
- Supporting the management of the Realm’s physical office space including maintenance of shared office resources & hospitality, upkeep of office manuals and office supplies, etc.
- Occasionally moving supplies, equipment, and furniture of up to 30 pounds throughout the office and to and from rehearsal spaces.

Specific skills for this position can be taught, as long as the candidate has an affinity for systems and spreadsheets and demonstrates a keen attention to detail.

The ideal candidate will have 0-2 years of relevant experience through jobs or internships, as well as…
- A strong sense of organization and attention to detail
- An interest in and patience with working with numeric and financial information
- A willingness to engage in the Realm’s anti-racism work and values
- Experience with, OR an enthusiasm for learning and using Excel and Quickbooks

Compensation for this position will be $20/hr. Part-time employees are eligible for paid sick days per New York State guidelines; The Realm also offers paid time off for part-time employees on days the office is closed for holidays.
