DESCRIPTION

Gallery Players seeks actors for a staged reading of Tiger Style! by Mike Lew, a delightful comedy about a brother and sister who are frustrated by their lives in America and decide to go to their ancestral home of China to find a better life (things do not go smoothly). Tiger Style! is part of Have You Heard?, Gallery Players’ reading series of thought-provoking plays.

All callbacks, rehearsals, and performances take place at: Gallery Players, 199 14th Street in South Slope, Brooklyn. This is a non-union production.

Callbacks: April 18 11AM-3PM

Table read: Late April (date TBD)

Rehearsals: May 4-8, evenings; May 9 morning

Tech: Sunday May 10, 10AM-1PM

Performances: May 11-12 (Monday and Tuesday evening 7:30 curtain)

Stipend: $25

ROLES

For the Asian characters, native English-speaking actors of Chinese ancestry are preferred, but native English-speaking East Asian/AAPI actors will also be considered. The role of Jennifer has been cast.

ALBERT: Asian, late 20s-30s. Underachieving IT guy who copes with failure through humor, verbal gymnastics, and blaming his parents/Chinese heritage for everything. Lightly terrorized by his overachieving doctor sister Jennifer (who also blames their parents for everything). Great movement/physicality a plus.

TZI CHUAN/MELVIN/DAD/GENERAL TSO: Asian, 40s-60s. Plays several distinct archetypes who visit, guide, and haunt Albert and Jennifer. Comedy and gravity both needed.

THERAPIST/MOM/COUSIN CHEN/MATCHMAKER: Asian, 40s-60s. Plays several distinct archetypes who visit, guide, and haunt Albert and Jennifer. Comedy and gravity both needed.

RUSS THE BUS/REGGIE/CUSTOMS GUY: White, 30s. Torments Albert at work, disappoints Jennifer at home, insults them both at the airport. Belligerent, incompetent, and hilarious — a role to have fun with.
