SALARY

Dependent on ticket sales

Tristan was just broken up with by their long term girlfriend, Dakota, and they aren’t taking it so well. Wallowing in their apartment isolated from everyone, Tristan starts being visited by their ex’s childhood Imaginary Friend, Sunny. Together, Sunny and Tristan learn what life looks like without the person they loved so much. Helping each other cope with the same person out growing them both.

This is a fantastical surrealist show about reconnecting with your inner child. It’s about learning to let go of control and allowing others to make choices for themselves. It’s important to know that there are no such things as bad emotions. All are healthy, valid, and worthy of expression. Being happy all the time isn’t sustainable or healthy. And just because something didn’t last doesn’t mean it wasn’t worth it.

Character Breakdown:

ALL ROLES ARE OPEN. Feel free to submit for any or all of them.

Tristan and Sunny are written with they/them pronouns but that isn’t to say Tristan and Sunny are nonbinary (although Sunny is particularly genderless to me), but that any gender can play them. Dakota is written with she/her pronouns, but she can be played by any gender as well. Feel free to change the pronouns in the dialogue to fit the actors playing them. The performer who plays Tristan will be playing that part for the entire show. While Sunny and Dakota’s performers will be covering multiple parts.

Tristan - Kind of a loser. The very definition of a wet blanket. Abandonment issues. A control freak who’s lost control. Stoner. Painter that’s too anxious to paint.

Sunny - Sunshine incarnate. Yellow cartoon character. Toxic positivity. Can do attitude. I can see them being played in many ways. They could be played like a fairy, a princess, a clown/jester, a barbie doll, or even a robot a la Janet from the good place. Make them your own.

Dakota/Koty - Tristan’s ex. Sunny’s assignment/bestfriend. Definition of a cool girl. Artist. Photographer. Free spirit. Passionate. Independent. Avoidant. She uses her sarcasm and wit to hold people at arms length.

The Nightmare - Villianess. Spiteful. Angry. Manipulative. Powerful. The Nightmare could be played like a queen bee mean girl type, or a witchy villainess, or a monstrous creature/sleep paralyses demon, or a mafia boss. Make it your own.

Director Ellis Quinne (they/them) Is an out of town director from Cincinnati, Ohio. They wrote this piece and then submitted it to FRIGID as a part of their co-producing program. Ellis has directed musicals such as Ordinary Day and Ride the Cyclone and is set to direct Firebringer this fall. As a director they specialize in physical acting. First establishing the character through table work. What are their wants and desires? Then finding how that character moves and letting every other choice come from that foundation. Ellis strongly believes that theatre is a collaborative medium and their directing style reflects that.
