BREAKDOWN

A GUIDE FOR THE HOMESICK

SYNOPSIS: Set in a hotel room in Amsterdam, A Guide for the Homesick follows Teddy and Jeremy, two Americans drawn together by their shared isolation and haunting secrets. Teddy is seeking companionship for the night, while Jeremy is searching for a moment of distraction. As they open up about their troubled pasts, the narrative shifts between the present and the past, with two actors portraying four roles.

SEEKING:

[JEREMY] CAST (seeking Understudy) Male, White. Early 20s. JEREMY is Jewish. Intelligent, affluent and privileged. Like a typical 20-something he’s in the throes of self-discovery. But he’s at odds with the cards he’s been dealt, and the disconnect makes authentic connection tough to achieve. Doubles as ED -- Intense and impulsive. A fellow banker with Teddy, his spontaneity and call to adventure is magnetic. However, the mania that drives the excitement threatens his relationships and well-being.

[TEDDY] CAST (seeking Understudy) Male, African American. Late 30s. Charismatic and a pro at “working a room”. Harlem bred, he’s an expert code switcher that makes his inner frat-boy and middle-aged queen appear as an effortless combo. That act can obscure his true desires, and hide a deeper yearning for connection. Doubles as NICHOLAS - Ugandan. A gentle soul and visibly gay. Loyal and devoted. His circumstances make it so he can’t be “out” but he certainly isn’t hiding. His world makes it impossible to name his truth. He can give a good read, except when loyalty or desire blinds him.
