DESCRIPTION
Call for two (2) FESTIVAL-TD positions, in a 24-YEAR-OLD NYC festival with high production standards, in a modern Manhattan 89-seat house. TDs SHARE between them 7 to 8 shows per week, each show has 1 tech + 1 to 3 performances (includes 2 simply-staged readings). BASE TOTAL FEE MINIMUM $1,900 (plus a "stress bonus" added for the first week. 2nd week is much easier. Usually.) Fee structure: Independent Contractor (1099-NEC). $150 retainer paid on Day 2. Balance of fee paid before Load-Out.
PRIMARY requirements:
> AVAILABLE from April 20 THROUGH May 3. at roughly Half-Time minimum.
> Experience programming and running latest ETC Lighting Control hardware & firmware, with emphasis on multi-show backups. Replace lamps if necessary, when assistants available.
> Programming Vari-focus and LED-color instruments.
> Focus on Lighting Design with a pre-designed, fixed rep-plot.
OTHER skills:
At least 1 season TD Experience in a Theater Festival environment very helpful.
Understand basic booth-level sound environment.
Ability to work with extremely flexible schedule which you help create.
Be comfortable working in a mostly LGBT environment.
ALSO Helpful:
> Ability to assist Show S.M.s in adding their sound or video cues to our QLab-equipped laptop, IF necessary.
> Ability to assist show Directors who have NO lighting designer ad-lib from our rep-plot.
> Ability to say "No" politely can be very helpful.
> Communicate with your ASMs (we provide 2) especially in keeping their Booth-Book up to date (Show Tech Notes).
Work Environment:
This festival has 5 to 7 full-length plays per-week, plus 3 shorter events (detailed schedules available).
Two TDs will work as a co-operative TEAM, SHARING the show Techs & Runs across the two weeks, so that each has equal workload and neither has to work both early and late hours in same or consecutive days. (at least that's the goal)
We provide 2 Technical/Logistical Stage Managers (TSMs) to assist you during Tech Rehearsals and during show opening and closing calls. (Each show MUST have its OWN production Stage Manager, and shows are expected to run their OWN booth video/or/projections if used, and sound unless extremely basic).
There are no 'early morning' calls, and only 5 nights run to 10pm.
There is no 'Lighting hang' call. We check the pre-installed fixed rep-plot; adjust focus if needed; add 2 stage practical lines if not present. Sometimes gels on 2 to 3 banks.
