DESCRIPTION

Interdiscplinary artist joseph webb is the recipient of a Young Arts Fellowship with support from The Rockefellers Brothers Fund to develop "prayers for a hopeless romantic: lovers rock." This work honors and celebrates the birth of the lovers rock reggae movement that took place in the UK in the 1970's through vernacular dance, reggae music and Black diasporic language via musical theatre conventions. This audition is for a two week workshop residency at The Pocantico Arts Center.

Seeking:
Dance/Actors: Male and Female ( late teens-20's) who identify as Black and/or from the African Diaspora to play British Afro-Carribean young adults. If you can sing/carry a tune that’s a plus.

Narrator/Toaster Male (20's-40's) who identify as Black and/or from the African Diaspora who can sing to play British Afro-Carribean adult.

Residency Dates:
2/24/2024-3/9/24 at Pocantico Arts Center in Tarrytown, NY.

Compensation:
$805 a week ($1610 for two weeks) plus train travel to and from Grand Central Station New York

WHAT TO PREPARE

Preparation:

Please come warmed up and ready to dance.

Bring tap and jazz character shoes. Female identifying, bring character heels as well.

Also, please bring your headshot and resume stapled together.

Sing:
Be prepared to lyrically improvise 16 bars to a lovers rock reggae song.
