New York City Ballet has announced its 2023-24 season, which will feature more than 60 ballets, including four world premieres, and many revivals from the company's rich repertory, at Lincoln Center's David H. Koch Theater.
The fall season will be a celebration of NYCB co-founding choreographer George Balanchine, beginning September 19 with Balanchine's three-act abstract ballet Jewels. Through the following four weeks, the company will present five programs comprising sixteen ballets by Balanchine.
A special 75th anniversary performance will take place October 11, featuring Balanchine's Concerto Barocco, Orpheus, and Symphony In C. This program is an encore of the company's first-ever program from October 11, 1948.
November 24 through December 31, the company will present its annual engagement of The Nutcracker. NYCB's production of Tchaikovsky's holiday classic features choreography by George Balanchine and Jerome Robbins.
The winter season will commence January 23, and include additional ballets by Balanchine and Robbins, as well as ballets by Justin Peck, Peter Martins, Christopher Wheeldon, and Albert Evans.
February 1, the company will present a world premiere ballet by Tiler Peck. This will be the NYCB Principal Dancer's first new work choreographed with the company. Two weeks later, February 15, there will be a second world premiere, by Alexei Ratmansky, who this season joins the company as Artist in Residence.
The spring season will open April 23 with another all-Balanchine program, and conclude June 2 with Balanchine's A Midsummer Night's Dream. In between, programs will include contemporary works by Wiliam Forsythe, Ulysses Dove, Christopher Wheeldon, Justin Peck, Alexei Ratmansky, Pam Tanowitz, Kyle Abraham, and Gianna Reisen.
NYCB's annual Spring Gala performance on May 2 will feature two world premieres by Amy Hall Garner (making her company debut) and Justin Peck, as well as Ulysses Dove's Red Angels.
