Lloyd Webber told London's The Stage that his musical, which is based on the famed Billy Wilder film, may be mounted at the London Coliseum. He said, "Glenn wants to do it and I said to her that if she really wants to, we should get on with it."
No official announcement about a London revival has been made.
Sunset Boulevard, according to previous press notes, "weaves a magnificent tale of faded glory and unfulfilled ambition. Silent movie star Norma Desmond longs for a return to the big screen, having been discarded by tinsel town with the advent of 'talkies.' Her glamour has faded in all but her mind. When she meets struggling Hollywood screen-writer Joe Gillis in dramatic circumstances, their subsequent passionate and volatile relationship leads to an unforeseen and tragic conclusion."
The musical, directed by Trevor Nunn with music by Lloyd Webber and a book and lyrics by Don Black and Christopher Hampton, won seven Tony Awards in 1995 including Best Musical. Close starred on Broadway; she was succeeded by Betty Buckley and Elaine Paige. Patti LuPone opened the world-premiere production in London; she was followed by Buckley, Paige and Petula Clark.
