Off-Broadway News Will Brill and Thomas Jay Ryan to Star in World Premiere of Daniel Fish’s Kramer/Fauci

The staging of the 1993 televised showdown between Dr. Anthony Fauci and playwright Larry Kramer will play NYU Skirball next year.

The world premiere of Daniel Fish’s Kramer/Fauci—a staging of the 1993 televised clash between leading AIDS researcher Dr. Anthony Fauci and playwright-activist Larry Kramer—has been added to the NYU Skirball season.

Performances are scheduled for February 11-14 and 18-21, 2026, at the Manhattan venue.

Fish, who helmed the 2019 Tony-winning revival of Oklahoma!is returning to NYU Skirball following his 2019 adaptation of Don Delillo’s White Noise

The upcoming production also reunites the director with Tony winner Will Brill (Oklahoma!, Stereophonic, You Can’t Take It with You), who will play the the former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, and Thomas Jay Ryan (An Enemy of the People, West Side Story; Fish’s Eternal), who will play late The Normal Heart playwright. The cast will also include Greig Sargeant with additional actors to be announced.

The 1993 event crystallized a turning point in the fight for care, treatment, and recognition of those affected by HIV/AIDS. In this world premiere, Fish, press notes state, "dramatizes their exchange as both history and provocation, a searing reminder of how art, activism, and public health collide on the most human terms."

The creative team includes scenic designer Jim Findlay, costume designer Terese Wadden, lighting designer Scott Zielinski, sound designer Tei Blow, and movement director Beth Gill.
