AP reports that Goldberg has officially been named the moderator of the morning talk show created by Barbara Walters. Goldberg replaces Broadway lover Rosie O'Donnell, who spent a much-written-about year as the show's moderator. O'Donnell had replaced one of the show's original quintet, Meredith Vieira. Walters broke the news on the Aug. 1 broadcast of "The View." Goldberg stated, "I love this show. I love coming on it. I love hanging out with you guys."
"The View" is also searching for a replacement for the seat previously filled by Star Jones Reynolds. Comedic actress Sherri Shepherd, who has made several guest host appearances on "The View," is among the candidates.
Walters, who created "The View," currently co-hosts the program with Joy Behar and Elizabeth Hasselbeck. The program airs in the metropolitan area on WABC-TV Channel 7 from 11 AM-noon. Check local listings.
An Academy Award-winning actress, Whoopi Goldberg has appeared on Broadway in Whoopi, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum and Ma Rainey's Black Bottom.
