Weather Girl, written by Brian Watkins and directed by Tyne Rafaeli (Becoming Eve, Usual Girls), officially opened Off-Broadway at St. Ann's Warehouse September 21, and the reviews are rolling in!
The solo play, which is running through October 12 at the beloved Brooklyn venue, centers on Stacey (Julia McDermott), a California weather girl who struggles to bear being both oversexed and underpaid. As her regular routine of teeth whitening, prosecco, and wildfires descends into a scorched-earth catastrophe, she discovers something that could, in the end, save us all.
Produced by Francesca Moody Productions, the show garnered multiple awards at the 2024 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and transferred to Soho Theatre in London earlier this year, selling out in both places. Netflix is now developing Weather Girl as a limited series.

Said Watkins in a previous statement, "I wanted to write a love letter to California, one that embraced all its strangeness and beauty, exploring the gonzo feeling of being detached from the environment. What came out was a runaway train of a play that aims to laugh into the dark. It's an invitation to join our heroine into some unexpected, if not unthinkable, places. At its heart, the play sets out to investigate a core question of why we wreck the places we love."
The Off-Broadway production features lighting design by Isabella Byrd, costume design by Rachel Dainer-Best, sound design by Kieran Lucas, associate director Adam Coy, stage manager Katie Girardot, production manager Jack Boissieux, associate set and lighting design by Emily Schmit, and associate sound design by Matt Otto. This production is produced in association with Jessica Foung and Dianne Roberts.
Said Moody, “I am thrilled to be bringing this scorching black comedy to St. Ann’s Warehouse and have the opportunity to share it with New York. Weather Girl is not just a brilliant play but a powerful statement. It could not feel more timely or relevant. It’s a sucker punch, a reality check, and a good night out all at once. We are honoured to be included in the great canon of shows which have made their home at St. Ann’s Warehouse, a venue which (in my opinion) holds the very best of theatre at its heart. And once again I am lucky to be working with this incredible team of artists—Brian Watkins, Tyne Rafaeli, Julia McDermott, Isabella Byrd, Kieran Lucas, and Rachel Dainer-Best—who have poured everything into this fierce and important production.”
