On August 7, Newsies made its Muny premiere at the St. Louis outdoor theatre. The production—the final show of The Muny season—stars Jay Armstrong Johnson (Hands on a Hardbody, On the Town) as Jack Kelly. Take a look at the above video featuring the cast in action.

Directed and choreographed by Chris Bailey, the outdoor production also stars David Gaines as Joseph Pulitzer, Tessa Grady as Katherine Plumber, Ta’rea Campbell as Medda Larkin, Daniel Quadrino as Crutchie, Spencer Davis Milford as Davey, and Gabriel Cytron as Les.

The ensembles features Jordan Beall, Kyle Coffman, Beth Crandall, Dean Andre deLuna, Damon J. Gillespie, Gary Glasgow, Michael Hoey, Curtis Holland, Phillip Johnson-Richardson, Sean Harrison Jones, Alex Hayden Miller, Ben Nordstrom, Rich Pisarkiewicz, Jack Sippel, Gabi Stapula, Brendon Stimson, Clay Thomson, Daryl Tofa, Matthew Wiercinski, and Thad Turner Wilson. The company is joined by The Muny kid and teen youth ensembles.

Newsies, based on the 1992 movie musical, tells the story of the 1899 newsboy strike in New York. The stage adaptation was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Musical in 2012 and won Tonys for Best Score (Jack Feldman and Alan Menken) and Best Choreography (Christopher Gattelli).

With music direction by Michael Horsely, scenic design by Michael Scweikardt, costume design by Leon Dobkowski, lighting design by John Lasiter, sound design by John Shivers and David Partridge, video design by Greg Emetaz, wig design by Leah J. Loukas, and production stage management by Matthew Lacey, the show runs through August 13.
