Lincoln Center's David Rubenstein Atrium hosted a special sneak peek at the developing Broadway-aimed Frida the Musical September 7. Watch Florencia Cuenca sing “Wings” from the developing musical at the event above.
The concert included select songs from the new musical, songs that fuse "Mexican folk music with a lush, contemporary sound," according to press notes. The musical, officially revealed to be in the works last month, features music by Jaime Lozano and lyrics by Obie-winning playwright Neena Beber. The project is a collaboration between the Kahlo family, BTF Media, and producer Valentina Berger.
The musical follows Frida on her journey from Mexico City to Paris to New York, and finally back home as she follows her passions. The creative team has been given access to exclusive material from Kahlo’s estate to craft the work. A workshop presentation is expected in 2023.
