Classic Arts News Vienna State Opera Singer Gertrud Burgsthaler-Grazner Is Dead at 88 Opera singer Gertrud Burgsthaler-Grazner died on October 28 in Vienna, the Austrian Press Agency reports. She was 88.
Burgsthaler-Grazner, who sang alto and mezzo-soprano roles, appeared at the Vienna State Opera from 1945-1950, and at the National Theater in Linz in the 1950s and '60s. She was a versatile singer, performing roles in everything from Wagner to Verdi to operetta.

After retiring from the stage, Burgsthaler-Grazner taught at the Bruckner Conservatory in Linz.
