The new musical Suffs will begin previews at Broadway's Music Box Theatre March 26, and the company is already kicking off its celebration. Check out the new promotional video above.
In the video narrated by Emmy winner Rachel Brosnahan, one of the musical's producers, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, celebrates the American suffragist movement. She is joined by Suffs writer-composer-lyricist and star Shaina Taub, as well as a variety of Suffs cast members, including Tony winner Nikki M. James, Tony nominee Jenn Colella, Ally Bonino, and Hannah Cruz.
Suffs centers on the real-life women who fought for the right to vote in America. It premiered Off-Broadway at the Public Theater in 2022 to sold-out houses. The Broadway run will officially open April 18.
Leigh Silverman, who helmed Suffs at the Public, returns to direct the work for Broadway. Along with Taub as Alice Paul, the cast includes James as Ida B. Wells, Colella as Carrie Chapman Catt, Grace McLean as President Woodrow Wilson, Cruz as Inez Milholland, Kim Blanck as Ruza Wenclawska, Anastacia McCleskey as Mary Church Terrell, Bonino as Lucy Burns, Tsilala Brock as Dudley Malone, Nadia Dandashi as Doris Stevens, and Emily Skinner as Alva Belmont and Phoebe Burn.
Rounding out the company will be Hawley Gould as the alternate for Alice Paul, Jaygee Macapugay as Mollie Hay, and Laila Drew as Phyllis Terrell and Robin. The ensemble will include Dana Costello, Jenna Bainbridge Monica Tulia Ramirez, Ada Westfall, Christine Heesun Hwang, Kirsten Scott, Housso Semon, and D'Kaylah Unique Whitley.
Jill Furman and Rachel Sussman are producing the Broadway premiere, with activist Malala Yousafzai joining Clinton as a co-producer.
