Blessed with one of the purest, soaring tenor voices, the Broadway favorite always seemed as happy to see audiences as they were to relish in his dynamic performances. Case in point: Creel's Mamma Mia! medley at MCC Theater's annual Miscast concert April 15 at the Hammerstein Ballroom.
Creel, a Tony winner for his work in the most recent Broadway revival of Hello, Dolly!, was a frequent presence at the Miscast fundraisers, the annual concert that features Broadway stars performing songs from
roles in which they might not be traditionally cast. The actor's previous showstoppers for the series included "As If We Never Said Goodbye"; "In His Eyes" with Aaron Tveit; "You Gotta Get a Gimmick" with Jason Tam and Andy Karl; "Take Me or Leave Me," also with Tveit; and more.
In his final appearance for the Off-Broadway company, Creel was joined by Madeline Benson and Chris Peters for the Mamma Mia! medley that included "The Winner Takes It All," "Mamma Mia," and "Dancing Queen." In the video above, watch Creel do what he did time and time again for over two decades on New York stages: spread joy and warmth with his open-hearted, deeply felt performances.
