“It's a huge learning curve,” says Christopher Briney, who is currently making his Off-Broadway debut at the DR2. The actor, who is mostly known for his work in film and television, is returning to one of his first loves: theatre. Briney is keeping busy this summer, juggling roles in the hit Amazon series The Summer I Turned Pretty and the new Off-Broadway play Dilaria. Briney stopped by the Playbill Studio to chat about Season 3 of Summer and acting in Julia Randall’s off-kilter Off-Broadway play Dilaria.
Co-starring alongside Ella Stiller and Tessa Albertson, Dilaria explores the obsessive, often chaotic relationship Gen Z has with social media. The play began performances on June 13 and marks Briney’s first time on the Off-Broadway stage.
Briney, who was previously seen in the movie musical Mean Girls, takes on the role of Noah (pronounced “No-waah”), the charming Norwegian himbo boyfriend of the titular Dilaria, played by Stiller.
In the video above, Briney speaks with Playbill’s Meredith Ammons about what drew him to the role of Noah, how it differs from his past work, what fans can look forward to in the upcoming season of The Summer I Turned Pretty, and his love for the Theatre on Film and Tape Archive at the New York Public Library.
Dilaria is currently running at The DR2 Theatre through August 8th.
Alex Keegan is directing, leading a creative team that includes scenic designer Frank J. Oliva, lighting designer Paige Seber, costume designer Lily Cunicelli, and video designer Erin Sullivan. Casting is by Taylor Williams.
