Upright Citizens Brigade, the improv theatre company that operates two Manhattan venues—one in Hell’s Kitchen and the other in the East Village—will close the latter location due to financial reasons, according to New York Magazine.
Programming will go on at the East 3rd St. location as scheduled through February 9.
Artistic Director Michael Hartney said in an email to the UCB community that beginning February 15, the company's downtown presence will continue at SubCulture, which is located at 45 Bleecker Street. UCB will perform Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings with the possibility of expanding that schedule.
In a statement, SubCulture founder Marc Kaplan said, “SubCulture was created as an intimate home for artists to explore and take risks, and I have long dreamed of a comedy residency at SubCulture. From the start, we have welcomed New York’s top talent to our stage to create unforgettable performances that are the stuff of New York legend. Our new collaboration with UCB will ensure that we are bringing the best talent in comedy to our stage three times every week.”

Upright Citizens Brigade will continue to run its Hell’s Kitchen location (555 W. 42nd St.) as well as its two Los Angeles venues.
