Nachtland, a new satire by Marius von Mayenburg, translated by Maja Zade, opens its U.K. premiere February 27 at the Young Vic Theatre.

Directed by Tony winner Patrick Marber (Leopoldstadt), the production began previews February 20 and will continue through April 20.

The cast is led by Olivier, Golden Globe, and BAFTA nominee Jane Horrocks (Little Voice, Cabaret) as Evamaria, Jenna Augen (Leopoldstadt) as Judith, Gunnar Cauthery (Dear England, This House) as Fabian, John Heffernan (Much Ado About Nothing, Edward II) as Philipp, Dorothea Myer-Bennett (Leopoldstadt, Possession) as Nicola, and Angus Wright (Flowers, Peep Show, Oresteia) as Kahl.

Nachtland, an invented German word that suggests a place of eternal darkness, is set in modern-day Germany and concerns Nicola and Philipp, who argue as they clear out their late father’s house. When they find an old painting stashed in the attic, things get savage.

Von Mayenburg's plays include Fireface, Plastic, and The Ugly One. Zade’s previous translations include works by Lars von Trier, Roland Schimmelpfennig, and Lars Norén.

The production also has design by Anna Fleischle, lighting design by Richard Howell, composition and sound design by Adam Cork, movement direction by EJ Boyle, and casting by Amy Ball.

Tickets are available at YoungVic.org.
