News TV Wiz Star Hopes to Return to Broadway Stephanie Mills, who created the role of Dorothy in the original 1975 Broadway mounting of The Wiz and will play Aunt Em in the upcoming NBC live television production of that musical Dec. 3, hopes to return to Broadway, according to the Daily News.

When asked by theatre critic Joe Dziemianowicz whether she would reprise the role of Aunt Em on Broadway, the veteran singing actress answered, "Yes, in a heartbeat."

Mills also spoke about Shanice Williams, the young actress who will play Dorothy for NBC. "Shanice reminds me of me when I was her age," Mills said. "She's a beautiful spirit."

Harvey Fierstein is adapting the book for the star-studded TV event, which also features Queen Latifah as The Wiz, Mary J. Blige as Evillene (the Wicked Witch of the West) and David Alan Grier as The Cowardly Lion.

As previously reported, the musical is scheduled to play Broadway following the TV broadcast. Casting, dates and a theatre for the New York run have yet to be announced.
