News "Total Recall" Star Mel Johnson Jr. Set for Off-Broadway World Premiere of Road to Damascus, About First Black African Pope Mel Johnson Jr. (“Total Recall”; On the Twentieth Century) will star in the world premiere of Tom Dulack’s The Road to Damascus at 59E59 Theatres in January, directed by Michael Parva.

The cast will also feature Rufus Collins (The Royal Family), Larisa Polonsky (Burning) and Joseph Adams (A View from the Bridge.)

According to 59E59 Theaters, Dulack’s blistering political thriller “imagines a world where the first black African Pope is in the Vatican, and the first third party President in American History is in the White House. When suicide bombers strike Manhattan’s St. Patrick’s Cathedral and a train station in Miami, the US is sent in a tailspin. With American under attack and a full-scale civil war raging in Syria, the President must act. Will the Pope intervene?”

Performances will run Jan. 17-March 1, 2015.

The Road to Damascus is produced by The Directors Company and part of 59E59’s inaugural 5A Season. The design team includes Brittany Vasta (scenic design); Graham Kindred (lighting design); Lux Haac (costume design); and Quentin Chiappetta (original music/sound design).

Tom Dulack is an award-winning playwright whose plays have been produced on and Off-Broadway; they include Solomon’s Child, Diminished Capacity, Breaking Legs and York Beach. Michael Parva’s Broadway directing credits include Irena’s Vow, for which he was nominated for a Joe. A Calloway Award.
