With the upcoming September 4 closings of An Act of God and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, Stephen Karam's drama The Humans, which won the 2016 Tony Award as Best Play, will briefly find itself the only non-musical on Broadway.
The hit play about a family whose secret crises gradually come to light recently transferred from the 576-seat Helen Hayes Theatre to the 1,035-seat Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre, and is on the verge of announcing recoupment of its investment, according to Forbes magazine.
The Humans will be the only non-singing Broadway play for only a few days, however. Lewis Black‘s solo comedy show, Black to the Future, begins performances September 12, The Cherry Orchard begins September 15, and Simon McBurney's journey into the heart of darkness, The Encounter, begins September 20, along with Heisenberg, which starts the same day starring Mary-Louise Parker and Denis Arndt.
