Tony winners Rachel Bay Jones (Dear Evan Hansen, Pippin) and Danny Burstein (Moulin Rouge!, Fiddler on the Roof) will star in Laura Somers' newest film, Rise and Shine, per a report in Deadline.
The film is from a screenplay by Michael Stagliano, and based on the lives of Janice Steele and her daughter Terri, who was born with cerebral palsy and a developmental delay after a traumatic birth.
Jones and Burstein will be joined by neurodiverse actor Ana Sharp in her film debut as Terri. The film will also feature Jordan Walker Ross, Analesa Fisher, Jordan Nichole Wall, and Halie Strickler.
Nat Mundel and Robert Mitas are producing the film for Voyage Media, alongside Randy Wooten of Low Road Films, Jen Greenstreet with Just Like You Films, and Lila Yacoub. The story was first developed in Voyage Media’s incubator, under the guidance of Robert Mitas, and in partnership with the true life subject Janice Steele. The film is also based on a podcast episode from Voyage’s Hope Lives Here anthology series, produced by Dan Benamor.
