October 15: Acclaimed artist Anna Deavere Smith returns to the stage with her latest solo work, Notes from the Field, which investigates the school-to-prison pipeline—the system that pushes youth from poorer communities into incarceration.
October 18: The Broadway transfer of Natasha, Pierre, and The Great Comet of 1812 arrives at the Imperial Theatre. The original musical stars Denée Benton and Josh Groban making their Broadway debuts.

October 18: Performances begin for the New York premiere of Sweat by Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage at the Public Theater. The playwright’s newest work was awarded the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize earlier this year.
OPENING
October 13: Simon Stephens’ two-hander, Heisenberg, opens on Broadway following an acclaimed, sold-out run Off-Broadway last year. The transfer stars Denis Arndt and Mary-Louise Parker reprising their performances.
October 16: Roundabout Theatre Company’s contemporary staging of The Cherry Orchard opens on Broadway with a starry cast that includes Diane Lane, Joel Grey and Chuck Cooper. The Anton Chekhov classic has been adapted by Tony winner Stephen Karam.
October 18: Following the success of Bridge and Tunnel, Tony winner Sarah Jones returns to the New York stage with her new solo play Sell/Buy/Date, inspired by the real-life experiences of people affected by the sex industry.
October 19: Love, Love, Love, a new dark comedy penned by King Charles III playwright Mike Bartlett, debuts Off-Broadway with direction by Michael Mayer. The cast includes Zoe Kazan, Amy Ryan, Richard Armitage, Alex Hurt and Ben Rosenfield.
October 20: Ben Hecht and Charles MacArthur’s classic 1928 comedy The Front Page, about a fast-paced newsroom, opens on Broadway with a cast led by Nathan Lane, John Slattery, John Goodman, Jefferson Mays, Holland Taylor and Sherie Rene Scott.
October 20: The Keen Company’s revival of Jonathan Larson’s autobiographical musical Tick, Tick…BOOM opens Off-Broadway starring George Salazar, Ciara Renée and Nick Blaemire.
October 20: The first major New York revival of David Hare’s Plenty opens at the Public Theater starring Oscar winner Rachel Weisz. The award-winning post-World War II drama is directed by David Leveaux.
SPECIAL EVENTS
October 16: Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda hosts a special screening of the 1964 Disney film musical Mary Poppins at the United Palace of Cultural Arts, a cinema in his home neighborhood of Washington Heights in Manhattan.
October 16: Join Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka for a Broadway-inspired brunch at Metropolitan West in New York. The duo is joined by the city’s best chefs, who are preparing show-inspired dishes for Broadway Tastes.
October 17: Broadway stars and Hollywood A-listers unite for Stronger Together, a fundraiser concert for Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton at the St. James Theatre. The line-up includes Bette Midler, Jake Gyllenhaal, Sara Bareilles, Jon Hamm, Lena Dunham, Emily Blunt, Bernadette Peters and more.
October 17: The Lilly Awards Foundation presents its fourth Broadway Cabaret: Broadway Stars Performing the Work of Women Songwriters at the Cutting Room. Performers include Margo Seibert, Telly Leung, Keala Settle, LaChanze, Shakina Nayfack and more.

October 20: Caitlin Houlahan, who played Jane in NBC’s Peter Pan Live!, makes her Broadway debut in Waitress. She replaces Jenna Ushkowitz in the role created by Kimiko Glenn.
October 21: Hamilton’s America, the documentary film that explores history through the lens of the Tony-winning hit musical, premieres on Thirteen/PBS at 10:30 PM.
October 21: Just a few blocks away from where the Tony-winning musical Jersey Boys continues to play on Broadway, the real-life Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons kick off a week of concerts at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre.
