The Woodsman, the untold story of Oz's Tinman and the woman he loved, will conclude its acclaimed, return Off-Broadway run May 29. The Strangemen & Co. production officially opened February 8 at New World Stages following previews that began January 27.

Directed by James Ortiz and Claire Karpen, the musical features music by Edward W. Hardy and lyrics by Jen Loring. It previously had two acclaimed and sold-out runs at 59E59 Theaters.

Based on the writing of L. Frank Baum, The Woodsman tells the origin story of the Tin Woodsman, the woman he loved, and the witch that tried to keep them apart. The cast features Benjamin Bass, Will Gallacher, Alex J. Gould, Amanda A. Lederer, Aaron McDaniel, Lauren Nordvig, Eliza Simpson, Meghan St. Thomas, Sophia Zukoski, Oritz and Devin Dunne Cannon, who is also associate director. 

The Woodsman creative team includes Ortiz (set and puppet design), Molly Seidel (costume design), Carol Uraneck (original costume design), Catherine Clark and Jamie Roderick (lighting design), Devin Dunne Cannon (associate director), Will Gallacher (movement coordinator), Aaron McDaniel (fight director) and Naomi Florin (music director and violinist).

Robb Nanus, Rachel Sussman, Ryan Bogner and Adam Silberman are the producers. The Woodsman was originally produced and developed by Strangemen & Co. and premiered at Brooklyn’s Standard ToyKraft in 2012. Following a staging at the Ars Nova ANT Fest in 2013, it went on to transfer to 59E59 Theaters in 2014 and played a return, sold-out engagement there in 2015.
